NOEL CLARKE: MAGAZINE ANALYSIS

Main Image
The two main images are of Noel Clarke, the main feature within the magazine . The images contain various paradigms such as the size of his body across the whole magazine , which is dominating, reflecting on his importance within . Similarly to this another paradigm of the main image is the body language of the two images, in one image he appears to look desirably at the camera and in the other he looks arrogant and assertive. The paradigm is formed from the collaboration of various signs such as his posture with a steady stance for example his hands in his pockets signifies confidence. The contrast in clothes that he is wearing, one associates him with an urban edge whilst the other he is dressed sophisticated. This relates to Saussure's idea of interpretation and how we may interpret their outfits allowing us to associate him with a certain lifestyle based on what he is wearing and how he is presented in the two images. Each paradigm for the main images combine together to form syntagms which creates an overall meaning for the main image. This initially concludes that the main image has created a sense of urban edge to captivate the readers attention, also allowing the sense of association with all the films Noel Clarke has acted in and directed.

Masthead
The sizing of the masterhead is a relatively important paradigm as it signifies the importance of the magazine and it also the overall identity for the magazine, including the name and what it stands for. Despite being regular sized the positioning of masterhead is behind the two images. Another paradigm of the title is the use of two colours which compliment the two main images, this reflects the theme of the magazine being about Noel Clarke's personalities and the tagline saying naughty but nice. This shows how the paradigms of colour combine to creates syntagms and meaning to portray the which combining with the size and font of the masterhead, creating a syntagm being the title of the magazine and how it works with the rest of the paradigms on the page to form an overall construction. The colour of the masterhead is used effectively as it works well with the paradigms such as the colours of the clothes the actors are wearing.

Flash Headlines
The flash headlines are done in a sans serif font, which is smaller than the other text on the magazine cover. The shows the insignificance in comparison to the main article and headline. This was perhaps done purposely not to distract the audiences attention from the main topic. Importantly the use of the paradigm of small font sends a message to readers that there is no association with the main image and the flash headlines.

Lead Article
The Lead Article is dedicated to Noel Clarke, The word Exclusive provides a unique selling point to entice peoples attention. The font of the lead article is the second biggest piece of text on the page after the title. This shows that it is a significant feature within the magazine. Similarly to this the information under the lead article gives a slight insight into what to expect when reading it. Importantly the lead article is over the main image which suggests an associatio0n or link between the main image and leading article. This is different to the flash headlines which appear at the side of the magazine, suggesting their lack of importance in comparison to the main article.
