About the UPSE

The University of the Philippines School of Economics (UPSE), located at the UP Campus in Diliman, was established in 1965 by merging the Department of Economics, previously a part of the College of Business Administration, and the Institute of Economic Development and Research (IEDR), previously a separate unit of the University. The IEDR has since been renamed the Economics Research Center (ERC) which directs the Schools research activities.

About the UPSE

The Department of Economics is mainly responsible for the academic degree programs leading to the baccalaureate, M.A., and Ph.D. degrees. The School also offers a masters program leading to a Master in Development Economics (MDE) degree under its Graduate Program in Development Economics. The Public Affairs Office co-ordinates the Schools extension activities.

About the UPSE

The School is the only institution in the country with an active and internationally recognized Ph.D. program in economics; a high ratio of full-time faculty with Ph.D.s; and a nationally unparalleled record of international publications in the discipline.

In 1999, the UPSE was designated the sole Centre of Excellence in Economics in the Philippines by the Commission of Higher Education.
