Definition
Geopolitics is country doctrine for the problems of

border strategy. It is a basis for political actions in habing space of life (Cf. Soemarsono, et al, 2005:61) Geopolitics of Indonesia is a method of thought and attitude in understanding the Indonesian identity and its environment as archipelagic country as it is manifested in the 1945 constitution.
Indonesian geopolitics is called as Nusantara outlook

(Wawasan Nusantara)

Background of Nusantara outlook

Pancasila Philosophy:

- its priority is societal interests instead of personal and group interests. -freedom of religion as the implementation of human rights -deliberation for agreement

 Geographical perspective:

- Indonesia consists of thousands of islands -geographical factors should be taken into account, since it contains unlimited natural resources and big human resources -this geography (Nusantara territory) can be positive or negative

 Cultural and social perspective:

-various tribes, religions, languages and traditions. -culture is not separated from society -Such a social and cultural condition has potential danger of conflict. Accordingly, Nusantara outlook is very important.

 Historical perspective:

- Indonesian country is colored by the struggle history of people to get independence - Nusantara outlook cannot be separated from historical experience of people and aspiration to get independence

Primacy of Nusantara outlook

As a visionary foundation in building a national life.

(Conceptual basis) Government and people needs a national outlook to guarantee societal life, national identity and territorial integrity. As a guideline and direction for policy, decision and action in living in society with dignity.

 Objective:

- realization of national aspiration - nationalism in all the fields of societal life - guarantee of identity, integrity and life, as well as national interests

Content of Nusantara Outlook

Objective of the existence of country to protect

people , its territory and prosperity National Integrity which consists of harmony and balance as Bhinneka Tunggal Ika in the motto of Pancasila. The unity of the whole country and its people
