The Future of Intelligent Workspaces

Agilent represents the kind of 21st century organization that can engage with these issues Not a romanticized low-consuming past but a path to a highly networked future society

The design uses techniques that have all been tried out separately. Harmonized and implemented together, it will be an international example showcasing the future of office architecture in continental tropical climates

Despite selecting water cooled chillers, water consumption has been reduced to about one third (110 klpd) of conventional (330 klpd) by rainwater harvesting and double recycling of waste. Hot water is provided by solar energy with gas backup.

UNDER FLOOR AIR-CONDITIONING

Underfloor air conditioning system An underfloor air conditioning system was introduced in this building. Compared with conventional ceiling diffuser system, not only promotes exhaust heat removal with higher efficiency but also increase the use of natural energy. The air column of the underfloor air-conditioning system can be controlled in either manual or automatic mode. In manual mode, occupants can directly control the air-conditioning to meet their personal requirements. Automatic mode is selected by the building operator during cool-down operations. Furthermore, automatic mode is selected over manual mode when the room temperature is abnormally high or low. Personalized Air Conditioning through Integration with Furniture Several types of personal systems are available in this building. Type A is a typical system that diffuses the conditioned air from the floor plenum. Type B is a system that exhausts heat through the partition. This prevents discomfort caused by hightemperature air from a pedestal computer. The idea is to catch the heated air at its source and discharge it efficiently through the exhaust openings at the top of partitions. Type C has the partition connected to the underfloor fan unit via a duct. The diffuser of the floor unit is removed to allow connection to the furniture outlet. The air from the floor plenum is mixed with room air to control supply air temperature from the partition outlet. In the underfloor air-conditioning system, significant beneficial impacts of directly removing exhaust heat can be achieved which means that the cooling load to be processed in the occupied area can be decreased. Consequently, higher temperature supply air is delivered at the time of cooling compared with a conventional ceilingbased air-conditioning system, assuming the same amount of conditioned air is supplied. Experimental results led to the assumption that the underfloor airconditioning system allows the temperature of supply air to be approximately 4oC higher than that of the ceiling based air-conditioning system. When the climatic conditions of India are taken into account, the potential amount of cooling energy Agilent savings that can be achieved is estimated to approach 30%. @ Manesar ,Gurgaon

OCCUPANT SENSORS
Occupant sensors are switching devices that respond to the presence and absence of people in the sensor's field of view. The system consists of a motion detector, an electronic control unit, and a controllable switch (relay). The motion detector senses motion and sends the appropriate signal to the control unit. The control unit then processes the input signal to either close or open the relay that controls power to the lights. The basic technology behind the occupant sensor derived from security systems developed for residential and commercial applications to detect intruders. However, the motion sensor has been refined so that it responds not only to the presence of occupants, but also to the absence of occupants in the space. Other enhancements of the technology have centered on reducing costs, increasing control intelligence, improving ability to detect minor motion, and increasing adjustment capabilities.

Other Features
Captive commuting facilities. State-of-the-art IT Infrastructure with optical fiber backbone, world-class conference / meeting space. Future-ready building with long term asset value and timeless finishes. Recreation centers, rooftop caf with 350 covers, daycare centers, medical sick bay, gym and health club, meditation center.

Climatic Response
The type of building designed allows good daylight, minimum overheating, good views (to the hill to the south), efficient and flexible circulation patterns. Main glazed facades are oriented north or south, avoiding west and east, eliminating uncontrollable solar radiation.

Character
Friendly, human Not a glass look >> unmanageable heat ingress Limited glass (~60% on North and South faade) To provide natural light without glare or heat

The Grid
Flexible modules have been worked out for interior options in 8.4 m x 8.4 m grid. Parking is efficient, gross density = 35 sqm/ECU; better than, say, 11m x 11m (40 sqm/ECU gross) Avoids central column, improving interior layout Economical (20% of horizontal structure cost saved compared to 11m span)

Workstations
Plug and play stations with flexible interiors on floor plates from 6,000 sft to 15,000 sft. With workstations of 1.8 m x 1.8 m, supervisors of 2.8 m x 2.4 m, and a variety of meeting room sizes, a user density of about 10.5 sqm/person is achieved. Gross area about 12.5 sqm per person.
