Roles in production and dissemination of resource materials and information

Who should take responsibility?

KAP study responses suggested some personal responsibility being taken for existing problems more definitive direction towards better engaging others who might not be/have been acting appropriately in respect of environmental practices regardless of whether these were family members, neighbours, communities at large, or the authorities incl. government.

10

Roles in production and dissemination of resource materials and information

What should be done?

The general population was insufficiently knowledgeable about environmental matters. Information dissemination should use all mass media as well as more participatory situations such as community group meetings and engagements; there seemed high interest in face-to-face approach. Interestingly, there was no mention of the Internet as an appropriate means of communication. Integrating environmental education into the formal system should be a consideration.

11

Roles in production and dissemination of resource materials and information

Sessional formats should conform to current trends: discursive, interesting and incisive, as well as authoritative. Messages and presentations needed to cut through competitive clutter. There were numerous examples with which the population could relate these could be used as reference points as well as to indicate actual/potential trends impact.

The resource consists of two parts:
The first introduces students to the basic principles and concepts related to biodiversity and its conservation and protection. The second provides background, case studies and activities related to some of the Caribbean's ecosystems; open oceans, coastal zones, coral reefs, mangrove swamps and tropical forests. Bookmarks and a linked table of contents are embedded within each section of the PDF file to ease navigation.
