Development and Fabrication of a Gyroplane

Outline
Introduction Aim and Objectives

Methodology

Introduction
Ever since man made his first flight on Dec 17th 1903 . The field of aviation has seen many innovations and major developments. Aerospace structures include launch vehicles, (GSLV, Delta, Titan), missiles (BRAHMOS, Harpoon), Hypersonic vehicles (Space Shuttle), military aircraft (TEJAS, F-18) and commercial aircraft (Boeing 777, MD-11), gyroplanes, gyrocopter, jetcopters. Functions of aerospace structures include travelling, space exploration, emergency services, military applications, logistics etc.

Gyroplane
It has a fuselage like an airplane, and a propeller to provide the propulsion, but its lift is provided by a rotor similar to that in a helicopter.

The difference is that the rotor in an autogyro is not powered. It is made to spin by aerodynamic forces. This is known as autorotation.

Aim & objectives:

Aim of the project:

Development & fabrication of gyroplane.

Objectives:

To fabricate a prototype of a gyroplane

Preparation of design drawing. Test run Studies
7

Comparison with a plane

Simple in design Low cost and easy to fly. Simple construction. Can fly in low terrain & can glide at low speeds. Short distance take off & landing. Has hovering characteristics.
8

Comparison with a chopper

Can cruise at higher speeds. Can take greater loads. Low cost. Ability to land safely on engine failure
