What Research Is
Research is:
the systematic process of collecting and analyzing information (data) in order to increase our understanding of the phenomenon about which we are concerned or interested.1

In general, business research refers to any type of researching done when starting or running any kind of business. For example, starting any type of business requires research into the target customer and the competition to create a business plan. Research provides the needed information that guides managers to make informed decisions to successfully deal with problems.

Types of Research
Pure Research: It is undertaken for the sake of knowledge without any intention to apply it in practice. Applied Research: It aims at finding a solution for an immediate problem facing by a society or an industry.
Exploratory Research: It is preliminary study of an unfamiliar problem about which the researcher has little or no knowledge. Action Research: The process by which practitioners attempt to study their problems in order to guide , correct and evaluate their decisions and actions is called action research.
Descriptive Research: The major purpose of descriptive study is description of the state of affairs as it exists at present. Diagnostic Research: It is directed towards discovering what is happening , why is it happening and what can be done about.
