About Australia:
World's smallest continent but sixth-largest country. Australia is surrounded by Oceania, continent between the Indian Ocean and the South Pacific Ocean. Australia is the only nation to govern an entire continent and its outlying islands. The mainland is the largest island and the smallest, flattest continent on Earth.

It lies between10 and 39 South latitude. Its capital is CANBERRA. Its GMT +10. Much of Australia has a continental climate. The temperatures get hot during the day, then drop considerably at night. Australia is also very arid, getting very little rain.

The Liberal Party (LP), nominally representing urban business interests, and its smaller coalition partner, The Nationals, nominally representing rural interests, are The CentreRight Parties. The centre-left Australian Labour Party, founded by labour unions, nominally represents workers and left-of-centre groups. Julia Gillard assumed the office of Prime Minister in June 2010, succeeding Kevin Rudd following her unopposed election as Labour leader in a caucus ballot.

With Rest Of The World : Australia has been active in the Australia-New Zealand-U.K.
Agreement and the Five-Power Defence Arrangements--successive arrangements with Britain and New Zealand to ensure the security of Singapore and Malaysia. Australia takes a prominent part in many other UN activities, including peacekeeping, non-proliferation and disarmament negotiations, and narcotics control. Australia also is active in the G20, the Commonwealth Heads of Government, the Pacific Islands Forum, the Cairns Group--countries pressing for agricultural trade reform in World Trade Organization (WTO) negotiations--and APEC which it founded. In 2002, Australia joined the International Criminal Court.

Opportunity to Indians in Australia India is our second largest source of skilled migrants, says Australian Consul-General David Holl . mr. holl said they will issue 1.2 lac visas for Indian businessman and visitors. Besides this, India and Australia have agreed to set up the India-Australia Education Council to strengthen bilateral relationship in the sector. The focus would be on institutional tie-ups in the areas of excellence to deliver vocational education in India, he said. According to Mr. Holly the bilateral trade between India and Australia grew rapidly from $8 billion in 2005 to $22 billion in 2010 and it was all set to reach $40 billion by 2015.
