HISTORY

The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) was founded in 1965 to replace exploitation with empowerment, tradition with modernity, stagnation with growth, transforming dairying into an instrument for the development of India's rural people.

history

The india District Co-operative Milk Producers' Union was registered on December 14, 1946 Anand (in Kaira District of Gujarat).[ Milk collection was also decentralized, as most producers were marginal farmers who were in a position to deliver 1-2 litres of milk per day. Village level cooperatives were established to organize the marginal milk producers in each of these villages. The Cooperative was further developed and managed by Dr. V Kurien along with Shri H M Dalaya skimmed milk powder from buffalo milk the first time on a commercial scale anywhere in the world The Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Ltd. which had established the brand name Amul in 1955 decided to hand over the brand name to GCMMF (AMUL). Impressed with the development of dairy cooperatives in Kaira District and its success, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, the then Prime Minister of India during his visit to Anand in 1964, asked Dr. V Kurien to replicate the Anand type dairy cooperatives all over India. Thus, the National Dairy Developed Board was formed and Operation Flood Programme was launched for replication of the Amul Model all over India.[9]

Any investment idea can do well only when we have three essential ingredients: entrepreneurship (the ability to take risks), innovative approach (in product lines and marketing) and values (of quality/ethics).
The Indian dairy industry, following its delicensing, has been attracting a large number of entrepreneurs. Their success in dairying depends on factors such as an efficient yet economical procurement network, hygienic and cost-effective processing facilities and innovativeness in the market place. All that needs to be done is: to innovate, convert products into commercially exploitable ideas. Benjamin Franklin discovered electricity, but it was the man who invented the meter that really made the money!

Cooperation is the preferred form of enterprise, giving people control over the resources they create through democratic selfgovernance.
Self-reliance is attained when people work together, have a financial stake, and both enjoy the autonomy and accept the account ability for building and managing their own institutions. Technological innovation and the constant search for better ways to achieve our objectives is the best way to retain our leading position in a dynamic market. While our methods change to reflect changing conditions, our purpose and values must remain constant. Progressive evolution of the society is possible only when development is directed by those whom it seeks to benefit.
