North Korea invades south Korea and captures Seoule. Because Kim il Sung hoped to join the two Koreas into one communist nation. The Hungarian revolution. The revolt began as a student protested against the government which soon expanded to 1,000. The troubles began when they wanted to go inside Radio Budapest to broadcast their demands but was guarded by the state security police. Elvis Presley releases first 170 hit song Heartbreak Hotel

The Soviet Union launches the Sputnik satellite, the first man-made object to orbit Earth. The Soviet Union was in competition with United States after the World War 2. In this competition they wanted to control space. Working with haste, later the Soviet Union launched a second satellite (Sputnik 2) but this time with a living animal, Laika the dog. Laika lived through the launch but soon enough died because there was no return plan.
