The Honorable Gregory W.

Slayton, Chairman

Respect for Fatherhood and the percentage of men who are actively involved Dads has declined steadily in the US over the past 50 years Our society now constantly celebrates the rich, the powerful, the famous and the infamousbut never good fathers Most popular media minimizes or actively puts down Fatherhood (see the preponderance of Doofus Dads on TV)

The importance of Fathers, even the need for Fathers, is now openly called into question in certain American sub-cultures

As a direct result, many men now choose to skip Fatherhood altogether, either by not marrying, not having kids or not parenting their kids As a result of that, 41% of US births in 2010 were to single Moms (in 1960 that number was 4%). The percentage of children born to unmarried moms has more than doubled for each major racial group since 1960. Over 70% of African American kids will be born out of wedlock this year.

As a result of that, over 50% of the American children born today will live some or most of their lives as minors without their fathers

Children who grow up without their fathers in the US are two to three times more likely:

To be convicted of a felony and spend time in jail To suffer from severe emotional illness To have children out of wedlock To fail to graduate from high school To never hold down a long-term job To be functionally illiterate To live in poverty To die a violent deathand the list goes on and on

Fatherhood absence and high divorce rates plague every branch of the US military. Repeat deployments to multiple war zones are straining military families to the breaking point all too often Since the start of Operation Enduring Freedom, the divorce rate across all US Military branches has increased from 2.6% in 2001 to 3.6% in 2010

The US civilian rate was 3.4% in 2010

The DoD has recognized that the increasing challenges to military families is a very real threat to morale, re-enlistment rates and combat effectiveness.

Today there are approx. 80M men in the US and Canada who are fathers or grandfathers today or who will be fathers in the next 10 years 80% of US dads feel they need help on Fatherhood 75% of those do not know where to get quality Fatherhood help thats almost 50,000,000 men Likewise, there are tens of thousands of US Military Dads who would like help on the Fatherhood front

At Senator John McCains recommendation, and with his help, the FoF Foundation is partnering with the Dept. of Defense to help US Military Dads especially those stationed far from their families via the HOME Program The goal of HOME is to provide Fatherhood Kits to every member of the US Armed Forces who requests onefor free. Fatherhood Kits will be distributed to requesting service members via their Unit Chaplains further increasing the avenues for support and encouragement for each Military Dad who asks for help on the Fatherhood front.

A signed letter of thanks (for serving our Nation) and encouragement (to be the very best father possible) from Senator McCain, Senator Joe Lieberman and President Obama (all to be confirmed) A copy of the new book Be a Better Dad Today: Ten Tools every Father Needs by Gregory Slayton (Mr. Slayton is donating 100% of his royalty profits on all books to fatherhood charities). See www.BeABetterDadToday.com A Membership Kit to the new Fatherhood Social Media Hub www.FellowshipofFathers.com where fathers can get high quality 24/7 advice, encouragement, counsel and fellowship as dads. There will be a special section for Military Dads. Other items as appropriate (negotiations in progress with a number of national Fatherhood organizations)

FoFFs will work with the DoD and military publications to make US military dads and especially all US Military Chaplains aware of the HOME Program Any active duty soldier, sailor, marine or airman can request his Fatherhood Kit for free via an easy online sign-up

The Fatherhood Kit will be delivered free to the military dad via his Unit Chaplain, enhancing support and personal follow-up
FoF will also send multiple free Fatherhood Kits to every US Military Chaplain who requests them to be given out as needed The cost per Fatherhood Kit, including shipping and handling, will be less than $15.00 (all paid for by the FoFF)
