Introduction
1959 : 1969 : 1974: 1987 : 1992 :
Only a unit at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry under Department of Tourism. During that time, tourism was relatively underdeveloped. The unit was upgraded to a division when the government realized the potential of tourism for generating foreign earnings. The Tourism Development Corporation of Malaysia (TDC) was formed to further develop the industry. The ministry was created namely as Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism (MOCAT) TDC became the Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB) and was also known as Tourism Malaysia.

Contribution to Economy
Foreign exchange earnings Tourism expenditure generate income to the economy. The income in turn stimulates the investment necessary to finance growth in other sectors of the economy. Contribution to government revenue Derived from direct contribution such as taxes on income from tourism, employment and levies on tourists. Employment generation Tourism supports some portion of Malaysias workforce. Tourism can generate jobs directly through hotels, restaurant, taxi services and souvenir sales. Can also indirectly as in the supply of goods and services needed by tourism-related business.

Stimulation of infrastructure investment


Tourism can induce the local governments to embark on infrastructure improvements such as better roads and highways, ample supply of electricity and water, better telephone facilities and excellent public transport networks. Growth in other related activities The expansion of the tourism industry through its linkages, contributed to the growth of other related activities particularly food and beverages, accommodation, transportation and also entertainment.

Recent statistics suggest that nature-based activities are the fastestgrowing tourism product in Malaysia. Malaysia has 19 national parks, the most widely known probably being Taman Negara, Endau Rompin, Mulu the famous for its caves , and Kinabalu, home of Southeast Asia's highest mountain The government established a network of virgin jungle reserves to save as permanent nature reserves and natural arboreta and as undisturbed natural forest for general, ecological and botanical studies. Malaysian Government's commitment to the development of sustainable, nature-based tourism is reflected in its National Ecotourism Plan developed in 1996. tourism is private sector led and indicates roles for all sectors of federal, state and local government, private businesses, nongovernment organisations and other players. It was intended to cover the duration of the Seventh and Eighth Malaysia Plans, up to 2005.

Moving forward, Malaysia aims to become one of the best presenters of biodiversity in the world. The Global Biodiversity Hub (GBH) a. The Malaysian Rainforest Discovery Centre developed as a joint zoological and botanical garden using the open zoo concept b. Malaysian Marine Discovery Centre will act as showcases for showcase Malaysias marine offerings to the masses.Aquaria KLCC be leveraged for this purpose. He said an independent study by Universiti Malaya showed that an astounding US$144 million in foreign exchange collection could be attributed to the F1 in Sepang, based on the spending by foreigners during the F1 period. "The impact of Formula 1 hosting for tourism has been massive. If we made almost 150 million (dollars) in 1999, imagine the benefits that the nation has reaped over the last 11 editions.

The 2011 F1 season opened at Albert Park in Melbourne with the Australian GP held on March 27. Currently, there are more than 600 public and private educational institutions ranging from pretertiary to university levels exist in Malaysia. For e.g, public university that takes international students is UiTM and for private university is Lim Kok Wing University. government has provided Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) aims to support the government effort to attract, motivate and retain talented human capital from abroad. This scholarship is divided into two categories of study which are Postgraduate and Post-doctoral Studies.

1) Promotion and Marketing:


function of Tourism Ministry is to coordinate any marketing or promotion activity in relation to tourism. It was conducted by any government department or governmental or non-governmental agencies or organizations. By 1990, with developing tourism promotional efforts, the tourism industry became the third largest source of income for foreign exchange in this country. Gov. promotes different types of tourism. For example: o promotes culture and heritage tourism by providing funding for historical buildings, art galleries and museums. o promote ecological and agricultural tourism, focusing on popular attractions such as Kinabalu Park, Redang Island, Tioman Island and several marine parks.

Promotion and Marketing:


promote its beach destinations whereby popular island resorts have taken control of sections of coastal waters by being able to maintain their beach areas. many campaigns being launched such as the Zoom! Campaign the purposes is to promote domestic tourism, to promote the different parts of the country, and to make domestic tourism more interesting for Malaysians by coming out with new tourism products and packages. Government has spent about RM200mil, or only about 5 per cent of our total tourism receipts. Promote the Malaysian food due to the recognition of Malaysia as the food haven for foreign tourists because of the variety and uniqueness of the food found in the country. cultural promotion, cultural troupes, such as from Istana Budaya, would be specially brought to perform.
