Huen Tsang is said to have visited the Sun temple at X and had described the deity made of pure

gold and eyes of whom were made of large red rubies. He is also said to have seen several dancing girls (devadasis) in the temple. Even after the conquest of X by Muhammad bin Qasim, the Sun Temple was left intact, as it was a source of great income. Al-Baruni, who also visited X in 10th Century AD, left glowing description of it. However, the temple is said to have been finally destroyed by Mahmud of Ghazni in 1026 AD.

Mulasthan

X meaning Lotus City was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Gandhara from the 6th century BC to the 2nd century AD. According to the Ramayana, Bharata, the brother of Rama and king of Gandhara, had two sons, Taksha and ________. The former founded Takshashila to the east of the Indus. The latter founded X to the west of the Indus.

Ashoka built a stupa there which was described by Huen Tsang when he visited it.

Pushkalavati

A legend based on oral traditions holds that X was founded by Prince ____, the son of Rama, while Kasur was founded by his twin brother Prince _____.

When the celebrated Chinese pilgrim, Hieun Tsang, visited it, he found the walls of Sanghala (for that was what it was called now) completely ruined, but their foundations still remained; and in the midst of the ruins he found a small portion of the old city, still inhabited by Buddhist monks, who studied the doctrines of Buddha.

Lavapuri

X was capital of Kamarupa Kingdom under the Varman Dynasty (350 - 650 A.D). The word X derives from the Sanskrit word meaning city of eastern light. Another theory says X derives from the fact that there were many astrologers in the city.
Huen Tsang visited X at the invitation of its Buddhist king Kumar Bhaskaravarman. Later, the king escorted him back to Kannauj at the request of king Harshavardhana, who was an ally of Kumar Bhaskaravarman, to attend the great Buddhist council there which was attended by both the kings.

Pragjyotishpura

Trigarta Kingdom. According to the Mahabharata, the Trigarta kings attacked the Virata Kingdom aided by the Kurus to steal cattle from there. The Pandavas living there in anonymity helped Virata to resist the combined forces of the Trigartas and the Kauravas.
When Huen Tsang visited India during the reign of Harsha Vardhana, the Kingdom of Trigarta was under the rule of Raja Utito. The kingdom was said to have extended 167 miles from east to west and 133 miles from north to south, thus including the hill states of Chamba, Mandi and Suket and

Prasthala

X, was a city in ancient India, originally built by Ajatashatru in 490 BC as a small fort near the River Ganges, and later the capital of the ancient Mahjanapadas kingdom of Magadha. Its key central location in north central India led rulers of successive dynasties to base their administrative capital here. Huen Tsang visited this city, and in places like Sarnath, Bodh Gaya and Nalanda, all close by, he found many thousands of Buddhist monks.
