THIS BLOCK RELATED TO THE BLOCK 1, IN WHICH STUDENTS STUDIED LEARNING SKILLS AND BASIC CONCEPTS OF HEALTH AND DISEASE IT IS EXPECTED THAT STUDENTS WILL RELATE THIS BLOCK WITH MOST OF SUBSEQUENT BLOCKS, ESPECIALLY ON HOW THE DISEASE WILL DEVELOP IN POPULATION CONTEXT

IT IS ALSO EXPECTED THAT THIS BLOCK RELATE WELL WITH MOST SUBSEQUENT BLOCKS, THOSE DEALING WITH DEVELOPS IN A POPULATION SPECIFIC TOPICS IN BLOCKS 6,9,10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 20 AND 22 ARE HIGHLY RELATED TO THIS BLOCK CONTENTS.

GENERAL OUTLINE OF BLOCK CONTENT


Block V provide the students with Public Health prospective of Medicine (e.g: roles of general practitioners in the prevention of disease and health problems) A professional medical doctor is not merely characterized by their clinical competence, but their commitment to reduce barriers to equitable health care also count.

A COMMITMENT TO EQUITY ENTAILS THE PROMOTION OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND PREVENTIVE MEDICINE, AS WELL AS PUBLIC ADVOCACY ON THE PART OF EACH PHYSICIAN, WITHOUT CONCERN FOR THE SELF-INTEREST. TO ACCOMPLISH THESE REQUIREMNTS, EARLY EXPOSURE TO COMMUNITY ORIENTED MEDICAL EDUCATION IS IMPERATIVE FOR MEDICAL STUDENTS

GENERAL OUTLINE OF BLOCK CONTENT


A COMMUNITY AND SOCIETY IS NOT JUST A GROUP OR GROUPS OF INDIVIDUALS. COMMUNITIES ARE NOT LOCALLY SITUATED, BUT SHOULD ALSO BE SEEN WITHIN THE NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL CONTEXT. AS COMMUNITIES CHANGE, THE NORMS, VALUES, INSTITUTIONS, SOCIAL STRUCTURES, SOCIAL SYSTEM AND PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT, WHICH PLAY INTERDEPENDENT AND INTERCONNECTED.

A GOOD DOCTOR
CHARACTERIZED BY HIGH QUALITY EXPERTISE SHOULD PREPARE TO WORK IN GOVERNMENT (PUBLIC) OR IN PRIVATE SECTORS SHOULD UNDERSTAND THE SYNERGY BETWEEN MEDICINE AND PUBLIC HEALTH IN BL.V STUDENTS WILL BE INTRODUCED TO PUBLIC AND PRIVATE MEDICAL CARE AND ITS RELATION TO PUBLIC HEALTH.

FINAL OBJECTIVE
THIS BLOCK WILL FOCUS ON HOW EXTERNAL FACTORS FROM PHYSICAL AND SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT INFLUENCE HEALTH STATUS OF INDIVIDUAL AND THE POPULATION. STUDENTS WILL BE INTRODUCED OF PUBLIC HEALTH CONCEPTS, THEORIES AND ITS SCOPE.

SPECIFICS TOPICS
DOCTORS AND HEALTH CARE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE MEDICAL CARE HEALTH SYSTEM AND INTERACTION AMONG ITS COMPONENTS EPIDEMIOLOGY SOCIAL MEDICINE ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH WILL BE THOROUGHLY EXPLORED THROUGH CONSECUTIVE DISCUSSIONS GUIDED BY SCENARIOS

FINAL OBJECTIVE
BY THE END OF THIS BLOCK, STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO GAIN KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ON PUBLIC HEALTH PERSPECTIVE OF DISEASE OCCURRENCE IN A POPULATION AND HOW TO CONTRL IT.
