Masthead: This is one of the major conventions that a newspaper must have. Although they are both presented differently through colour and text, the composition of the masthead is likely to always be positioned at the top of the page. Brand identity is crucial when designing a product. The Wembley examiner promotes its area and the logo helps this as I have used the official Wembley Dateline: This is a brief piece of text included in news articles that stadium logo to emphasise my describes where and when the story occurred, or was written or newspaper. filed, though the date is often omitted. Datelines are traditionally The colour scheme was designed placed on the first line of the text of the article, before the first in order to fit with the logo so I sentence. stuck to basic blues and white in order to promote a well designed Website: An online newspaper, also known as a web newspaper, is media text. a newspaper that exists on the World Wide Web or Internet, either separately or as an online version of a printed periodical (EEdition).

The name of my newspaper is called Wembley Examiner and immediately the audience are able to identify my target audience as I am specifically looking at one area in the borough of Brent. Because of the geographic area that my paper is serving it will be representing the local area to an audience ranging through social class categories from BE. I have presented my mast head in a traditional way by using the Arial Black font and basic colours such as blue and white which gives authority to my product as it looks serious. This represents conventions of a local newspaper as they often use traditional fonts and basic colours in order to keep it simple and it is more conservatively presented.

Within my masthead I have also used a logo which is the Wembley stadium arch, this shows relevance to my paper as it represents Wembley and provides a link towards my masthead as it is apposite. This uses the general representation of Wembley as being the home of the national stadium.

As you can see both newspapers consist of a lead story with a headline (Splash head full caps) that manages to draw in the readers. Below each headline shows a Strap line which provides further information on the story which further entices the reader. Before the article is introduced the reporters include a By-line which introduces the writer and is traditionally placed on the first line of the text of the article, before the first sentence.

My lead story BOY, 16, MURDERED IN WEMBLEY immediately grabs my target audience as the story reflects news values of proximity as a murder in your local area is usually more newsworthy than a murder in china. The murder represents Wembley and its danger as negative as it provides a social warning for the local people and also shows a sense of awareness (surveillance; as mentioned by Blumler and Katz) by keeping up to date with the news.

Here is another factor I have used from a newspaper. Both pictures similarly use See page .. as they are both cover stories directing the readers to another page which may encourage them to read on and buy the newspaper.

Again, I have also used other conventions of a local newspaper as I have included adverts/ competitions. This provides escapism for the readers as this allows them to take part in the competitions and also become aware of the adverts that may interest them. The puff is designed to encourage people to purchase the newspaper.

The ad I have included on my front page produces a sense of entertainment as it provides us with a diversion as it something we enjoy (competition) and helps us take our mind off things. The competition is mostly targeted at a fairly younger audience as the prize consists of technology which stereotypically young people are known to be good at using. I have used fairly bright colours in order to attract the audience by using a tinted orange background and a white image of the prize which to purposely grab the audiences attention. Another ad I included on the inside page was Win a trip to Turkey which can be open to all readers and there is no restricted age, this competition provides escapism as it is something they are interested in.

Pictures from lead story My newspaper The images I have included represent the youth as stereotypical as they are in hooded garments and hats, which sells my story more as it provides believability and confirms the audiences pre conceptions on deviant youth and their appearance. By presenting the characters in a certain way confirms the audiences stereotype and reassures the audience of what they already think/believe/ know which can be seen as comforting.
