Evaluation: Task 2

Tracie Claire Woodall ODriscoll

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

My local newspaper

My Newspaper Inside Page

My Newspaper Webpage

My newspaper poster

My Newspaper masthead

My webpage masthead

As you can see both mastheads look a little different as I have made my logo bigger for the webpage. This is because I have more space to design my webpage and wanted to emphasise the Wembley logo as it reinforces my newspaper and its webpage.
Both images show that I have included the exact date and a clear reference to my webpage (Link). I included this on my Newspaper masthead to give the readers a direct link to the webpage to view the E-Edition of the paper.

The name of my newspaper is called Wembley Examiner and immediately the audience are able to identify my target audience as I am specifically looking at one area in the borough of Brent. Because of the geographic area that my paper is serving it will be representing the local area to an audience ranging through social class categories from B-E. I have presented my mast head in a traditional way by using the Arial Black font and basic colours such as blue and white which gives authority to my product as it looks serious. This represents conventions of a local newspaper as they often use traditional fonts and basic colours in order to keep it simple and it is more conservatively presented. The Wembley Examiner poster evidently represents my newspaper as I have included a image of the Wembley stadium itself rather than using the logo. Although I have included my newspaper within my poster , the way I have designed it is not fully presenting the paper. This is due to the Slogan Whats in it for you?; as you have to look behind the picture in order to get the full story.

Online Article

Newspaper Article Both images reveal similarities as they share the same lead story. This shows a link between my newspaper and my webpage as they contain the same information/ stories. I have used the same headline and image, in order to make it believable and show that they are both related. Along side that is an advert promoting to win an Ipod which I also felt was needed on the Webpage to show both the newspaper and webpage are advertising the same thing.

Webpage

Read full story- This is a direct link for those who are able to access this story online and which also encourages them to read on.

Above left shows the newspaper article of the lead story. Similarly next to it, is the EEdition version which is able to view after clicking Read Full story. This shows that both the newspaper and webpage are satisfying the audiences needs for information and news. (Surveillance)

Newspaper

E-Edition

Tinie Tempah makes his fans PASS OUT immediately grabs the younger audience as they are familiar with the artists name, and the image used shows Tinie in action as he is performing in Wembley Arena. This conveys elements from a local newspaper as I have included a catchy headline linked to an image which evidently relates.

My Newspaper The E- Edition

I have also used another small article on the front cover of my newspaper titled Grandmother robbed for shopping bags. This again provides a social warning and emphasises the audiences stereotype on the area (Wembley) as it is being represented as a rough area. The representation of the area is likely to be negative because thats the convention of news stories as they tend to high light the bad.

Newspaper E-Edition

Here I have included another section from my newspaper on my Website. This shows a direct link that they relate.

Newspaper

Here I have used a variety of adverts on my newspaper to show that my newspaper and website are linked. I changed the adverts up on the webpage to show diversity.
