What is an adverb?

An adverb tells you more about a verb.

It tells you where, why, how or how much something happens or is done.

So what are adverbs?


Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives and other adverbs Many adverbs end with ly Many adverbs answer the question How? These are adverbs
Eating quickly (modifying a verb) Trying very hard (modifying an adverb) A really big show (modifying an adjective)

What is an adverb?
Explorers eagerly chase adventure. Eagerly is an adverb because it is modifying the verb, chase. Some explorers visit amazingly beautiful places. Amazingly is an adverb because it is modifying the adjective, beautiful. Others quite bravely explore the unknownspace. Quite is an adverb because it is modifying the adverb, bravely, which is modifying

SPEECH TAGS
Speech tags are those bits of description attached to dialogue. For example : "You underestimate me, Paul," Sarah said, lifting her chin.
OR As Anne Marie ran down the stairs , she looked over her shoulder and shouted, "You can't catch me!"

Sometimes, the speech tag is an ADVERB that is used to describe how a character actually sounds when she says something : "You underestimate me, Paul," Sarah said loftily. (avec hauteur)

A final thing to notice about speech tags is that, other than said, there are a few words that be used when your characters give voice. For example :
"I'm sorry," she whispered. "I'm sorry," she shouted. "I'm sorry," she admitted. "I'm sorry," she whimpered.

Vocal verbs and adverbs are very useful in conveying useful and important information to the listeners and readers. They are also useful in providing motivation behind questions, statements and replies.

Vocal verbs

Vocal Verbs give information on the tone of the statement.

For example, the vocal verb moan indicates that something is said in a complaining fashion in a low voice.

Vocal ADverbs

Vocal Adverbs are often used to provide information on the feeling that the speaker has when making a statement .
For example , the vocal adverb joyfully indicates that something is said with great joy. He joyfully exclaimed the news indicates that the speaker is happy when making the statement.
