SITE ANALYSIS

1.) Based on the Wind Path, there are two prevailing winds that are present in the site. These are the Amihan and Habagat. Amihan (Northeast Monsoon)is experienced from November to february, while the Habagt is present during June to September. However, these two winds dont affect the building so much since in the part of the building in which they are intended to pass, there are no occupants. In other words, no one will benefit the ventilation and cool air from these prevailing winds. 2.) The building is oriented with its long side facing the West. When the sun path is taken into accord, this is not the best decision. In the afternoon, the building will absorb all the heat from the afternoon sun. Also, not much light comes into the building in the morning as daylighting since most of the windows facing the East are not operable and are covered with blinds. 3.) Although vegetation and bunches of trees exist around the site, some of them might not be as useful as they were purposed. The trees in front of the right wing of the quezon hall are high enough for the wind to flow through but arent low enough as to allow sunlight to enter that portion of the building. However, having these greeneries surrounding the building helps reduce the glare coming from the light reflected from the ground , in the same time also, reducing the heat that bounces from the ground to the building.

OBSERVATIONS
1.) There are many windows incorporated in the building design that could have helped in bringing light and fresh air into the building. However, these windows although operable are kept shut instead. The consequences therefore is the inadequate lighting and ventilation that the interior of the building has. 2.)Because the windows are kept shut and heat is trapped inside, they installed air conditioning units which only increased the energy usage of the building. 3.) The side facing West allowed a corridor in between the windows and the offices. This is a good decision because having a corridor is similar to having an air chamber in which hot air entering the building can be cooled before flowing through the rooms.

Recommendations
1.) Make the windows operable to allow ventilation and light to enter the builder in greater amounts. This is not a design solution but a personal effort required from the staff and users of the building. 2.)Retain the corridor which separates the windows from the offices on the side directly facing West. 3.) Use vertical fins to allow air in and at the same time, not blocking the light. Or instead, pierced screen devices that would have same effect as the vertical fins. However, they will provide another set of air chamber that would help cool the air entering the building. 4.)Plant low shrubs near windows of the offices located at the ground floor to reduce glare and heat and at the same time, allow wind to flow through.
