Present Unreal Conditional FORM


[If ... SIMPLE PAST ..., ... would + VERB ...]

USE The Present Unreal Conditional is used to talk about what you would do in imaginary situations in general.

EXAMPLES:

1.- If I had a car, I would drive to work.

2.- She would travel around the world if she had more money.

3.- I would read more if I didn't have a TV

4.- Mary would move to Japan if she spoke Japanese.

EXCEPTION If I were ...

In the Present Unreal Conditional, the form "was" is not considered grammatically correct. In written English or in testing situations, you should always use "were." However, in everyday conversation, "was" is often used.

EXAMPLES:

This tense describes completed events that took place in the past before another past event.

The Past Perfect Tense is used to express that an action had happened before another action acurred. And frequently both action are connected by When, because, as soon as, by the time, etc.

The Past Perfect Tense is often used with adverbs of time such as just, already, ever, and never. They are placed between had and the past participle

Past Unreal Condition

Past Unreal Conditions are used to express an imaginary situation in the past. The compound auxiliary WOULD HAVE + THE PAST PARTICIPLE of another verb is used in the main clause; the verb in the IF CLAUSE has PAST PERFECT FORM, but it expresses an Imaginary and impossible actions or condition in the past.
