Forces exist all around us all the time Force act on all objects, like this car. Forces are needed to make the car:

WHAT IS FORCE?
A force is a push or pull Lifting, stretching, twisting, pressing Cannot be seen. Its effects can be seen and felt Has magnitude (value) and direction

There are many different types of forces Gravity is the force that pulls objects towards the Earth.

Friction
Friction is another force that is all around us

Friction occurs whenever two objects are in contact with each other

For example, there is friction between the shoes and the floor surface

Frictional force
It causes moving objects to slow down. It is a resistive force.
If the engine is turned off, friction slows the train down until it stops.

The amount of friction depends on the roughness of the surfaces in contact There is more friction if the surfaces are rougher. There is less friction if the surfaces are smoother
