Construction line function involves different disciplines : 1. Civil construction including structural fabrication. 2. Mechanical equipment erection. 3. Electrical erection. 4. C&I erection. As per NTPC Corporate philosophy construction has been organized into two major groups :i) Construction : This includes civil construction and structural fabrication. ii) Equipment Erection : This includes erection of mechanical, electrical and C&I equipments. Equipment erection involves erection of all plant and systems such as boiler, turbo-generator, auxiliary systems like Coal handling system, Electrical and C&I system.

To ensure proper co-ordination with the contractors for timely execution of various equipments erection work, at site as per contract agreements / LOIs. To allot necessary land and infra-structure facilities to various contractors to enable them to mobilize their work-force and proceed with the erection work as per schedule. To plan, monitor and review the erection work on a regular basis so that work progresses as per schedule.

To ensure all work-fronts, inputs and resources are regularly made available during course of execution of the work and to preempt any foreseen hold-ups due to non-availability of any of these.
-- To exercise judicious control over consumption of bulk material and other consumables. -- To ensure that quality of erection work meets the company standards and norms. -- To maintain checks and ensure proper work measurements.

Basic responsibilities of erection execution supervision group are : 1. Study of LOI / Bid Documents : a) Scope of work and terminal points. b) Location, lay outs, technical specification and erection methodology for various equipment. c) Quality plan. d) Contractors resource commitment. e) Contractors schedule. f) Scope of supply and erection. 2. Land allotment and infrastructure services. 3. Erection planning implementation of detailed construction planning system. 4. Monitoring of equipment despatch, transportation, receipts and expediting.

7. Erection supervision Aims at assisting the contractor to work efficiently in terms of quality and parameters.
a) Inspection of works and field quality control. b) Measurement of work for decision of making payment. c) Taking over of erected equipment for commissioning. d) Completion reports and contract closure.
