Supplier Request for Engineering Approval (SREA)

1. What is a Supplier Request for Engineering Approval?

An SREA is a Supplier Request submitted by external suppliers to obtain Ford Engineering, Ford plant (e.g. Plant Vehicle Team - PVT, or Powertrain PD Resident), and Ford Purchasing (STA) Approval for a plan to implement* a proposed supplier-initiated manufacturing process or site change. Where the supplier does not have access to WERS or equivalent, an SREA can also be used to communicate a supplier-initiated design change to Ford parts/products or to request permission to ship non-conforming parts/products.

* NOTE: SREA approval does NOT indicate an approval to ship production parts. PSW submission, and unless waived by the Ford plant, a functional trial are required prior to shipping production parts.

Supplier Request for Engineering Approval (SREA)

2. Why do we have the SREA process?

To prevent supplier-initiated changes adversely affecting our product quality or manufacturing operations. PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) requires notification to Ford of all supplier-initiated changes to the supplier manufacturing process, site or part. The SREA is the communication tool used by Ford Motor Company to meet the supplier-initiated change notification requirement of PPAP.

For multiple vehicle lines, the lead plant is the first plant to implement; or is the plant with the highest part/product usage (determined by Product Development Engineering). Where the change affects plants in more than one geographic region, Lead Product Development Plant Resident approval is required in each region.

5 c) Understand the SREA process steps Service-Unique Components Supplier Part Design, Manufacturing Process And Site/Location Change
DEFINITION -- FCSD Service-Unique parts/product: Parts/product released by FCSD and not common with production parts/product (i.e. remanufactured components, service chemical, etc), and past model parts/product no longer used in production or for Original Equipment warranty repairs, but still produced for service. SERVICE-UNIQUE MANUFACTURING AND SITE/LOCATION CHANGES The list of service-unique manufacturing and site/location changes is the same as the list for production parts/product.
Note (Ford internal use):
For current model service-unique parts/product and FCSD Service-Unique parts/product; the originating Design and Release or PVT activity is responsible for all changes per the production part Global SREA Process documented in this procedure. If Ford Engineering is unable to address the SREA for the FCSD Service-Unique parts/product, then, upon FCSD request, Ford Engineering should transfer part/product ownership in WERS to FCSD (activity NUU0). This part/product ownership transfer will maintain a single design record associated with the transferred Service-Unique part/product and resultant SREA change.
