Born as the youngest child in a family of five daughters and three sons.His family's fortune turned when his father lost property when he was four. In 1904, his mother put him on the train and asked some of the other passengers to look after him. Konosuke said goodbye to his mother and left on the long, lonely ride to the big city. To help support the family, Konosuke was apprenticed to a hibachi (charcoal brazier) store in Osaka. In less than a year, the hibachi shop went out of business, and Konosuke found a new apprenticeship at a store selling bicycles. Konosuke's instincts told him that electricity would be the wave of the future. He applied for a job at the Osaka Electric Light Company, leaving his apprenticeship at the bicycle shop at age 15.

Konosuke's career continued to advance at the Osaka Electric Light Company as he was quickly promoted to higher paying positions, until, at the age of 22, he became an inspector - the highest post a technician could hope for. On the brink of bankruptcy, the company was saved by an unexpected order for a thousand insulator plates for electric fans. Now that business was picking up and Konosuke had money to invest, he rented a two-story home and launched Matsushita Electric Housewares KONOSUKE was to become Manufacturing Works that MATSUSHITA Panasonic.

The History of Panasonic in Malaysia In Malaysia, Panasonic Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PM) has a long standing presence for more than 30 years since it was first established on 29 March 1976 by the name of Matsushita Sales & Service Sdn Bhd (MASCO) with all home appliances and audio visual products under National brand. In 1992, MASCO was renamed National Panasonic Malaysia Sdn Bhd (NPM) promoting National brand for home appliances and Panasonic brand for audio visuals and in the same year NPM achieved a new milestone of breakthrough 1st billion sales. The rebranding from National to Panasonic From 1 October 2003, as a global brand unification movement of Panasonic worldwide, NPM was officially called Panasonic Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PM) promoting one brand Panasonic for all products range.

Matsushita Sales & Service Sdn Bhd (MASCO) was established on 29 March 1976 with its first office at Wisma Mirama, Kuala Lumpur Kedai National was launched nationwide. Konosuke Matsushita, founder of Matsushita was awarded 'Tan Sri' title by His Honorable Yang Amat Berhormat Dato Hussein Onn, Prime Minister of Malaysia. National showroom was set-up at Plaza Imbi, Kuala Lumpur. MASCO shifted its office to its own building at Lot 10, Jalan 13/2 Petaling Jaya, Selangor. MASCO entered the IT era with mass computerization.

MASCO celebrated its 10th Anniversary. MASCO participated in the first Quality Control Circle (QCC) for sales and marketing activities.

All products under National brand changed to Panasonic brand name and adopting the slogan "ideas for life". National Panasonic Malaysia Sdn Bhd changed to Panasonic Malaysia Sdn Bhd. Air-conditioner business was transferred from Matsushita Industrial Corporation Sdn Bhd (MAICO) to Panasonic Malaysia Sdn Bhd. Kid Witness News global video-in-education program was launched in Malaysia. Kunio Nakamura, President of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.
