What is robotics?
What are robots?

3 Yantras

Humanoids
Machines that have the form or functions of humans

Basic Components

Industrial robots
Study, design and use of robot systems for manufacturing

Welding robots

The other major welding task performed by robots is arc or seam welding. In this application two adjacent parts are joined together by fusing them, thereby creating a seam.

Painting Robot
The spray painting applications seems to epitomize the proper applications of robotics, relieving the human operator from a hazardous, albeit skillful job, while at the same time increasing work quality, uniformity, and cutting costs

Material handling
In semiconductor industry's IC chip manufacturing facilities, various processes take place within a clean room. This requires that personnel as well as robots not introduce dirt, dust, or oil into the area. Since robots do not breath, sneeze, or have dandruff, they are especially suited to the clean room environment demanded by the semiconductor

Car Assembly
Robots lend themselves well to the tedious and repetitive nature of assembly tasks provided that the proper planning and design have been done. In addition, their high level of repeatability has allowed the development of some new technologies in electronic assembly

Autonomous robots
Robots that can perform desired tasks in unstructured environments without continuous human guidance

Maintenance and Sensors

Self maintenance is based on "proprioception", or sensing one's own internal status

Exteroceptive sensors

Proprioceptive sensors

Task performance
Indoor Position sensing and navigation Laser based maps of building
CAD floor plans Outdoor autonomous position-sensing and navigation

Mapping the surface with 3-D vision computing safe and unsafe areas on the surface within that field of vision building up a 'Navigation Map' of all past navigation data

Robotics Courses
Robotics requires the application of computer integrated manufacturing, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, biological mechanics, software engineering

Conclusion
In todays society we find most robots working for people in industries, factories, warehouses, and laboratories. They are useful in many ways. They boost economy because businesses need to be efficient to keep up with the industry competition. Robots do better and faster jobs than humans, e.g. robot can built, assemble cars, assist in research and industry. As technology improves, there will be new ways to use robotics which will bring new hopes and new potentials.
