Introduction:
Vision:

Integrated development of the region through optimal utilization of resources with focus on improving the quality and availability of agriculture, water, productivity and animal resources and to become a bench mark resource centre for other to replicate. Products:

Largest and most integrated inorganic chemicals complex in India at Mithapur in Gujarat. 4 main product groups: soda ash, chloro-caustic group, marine chemicals and salt, and cement. A pioneer and market leader in the branded, iodized salt segment. One of the largest producers of synthetic soda ash in the world.

The Beginning

The story is about harnessing the fruits of science for goals that go beyond business. This story began in Mithapur, Gujarat in western India with the creation of a plant that would raise a wealth of marine chemicals from the ocean, with the potential to touch human lives in many ways.

About Mithapur Plant:

Installed capacity of 875,000 tpa about 34 per cent of the country's capacity. Honored with the prestigious "British Safety Council - Five Star Rating" for the second time (the first time it received this rating was in 2004). As per British Safety Council (BSC) audit conducted from May 12 to May 16, 2008 at TCL Mithapur it was concluded that this plant has very good safety management systems.

Performance Review and Dividend:

Turnover of the Company increased from Rs. 5,412 crores to Rs. 6,225 crores registering a growth of 15% over previous year. Profit Before Tax was Rs. 559 crores whereas Profit After Tax was at Rs. 408 crores, a decrease of 5% and 6% respectively over previous year. Recommended a dividend of Rs. 10 per share on the Equity Shares of the Company, aggregating to Rs.293.55 crores including Dividend Tax (net).

Mission: To make a positive impact on the communities in which the company does business through its support of select programs, outreach efforts and initiatives that improve and enhance the quality of life. Goal: To make things better for the planet, better for people, better for business, better now, better for the future.

CSR Activity 1: Uday

A Rural BPO, set up in partnership with Tata Business Service Solutions (TBSS) at Mithapur and Babrala. Bridge the digital divide between the rural and urban population. Provided employment to 266 educated rural youth.

CSR Activity 2: Okhai

Okhai- is now becoming a well-known brand for handicrafts and garments made by communities around Mithapur and Babrala. More than 450 women are associated with Okhai. Okhai will further integrate all such initiatives that are linked to rural products under it with an aim to empower the artisans associated with it.

CSR Activity 3: SHE i.e Safety, Health and Environment Policy

Mithapur plant produces potable water from seawater in this water-scarce area. It also recycles water to a zero-discharge sewagetreatment plant. TCL implemented a water-management programme which has made the town independent in terms of water resources. Tata Salt, the largest-selling branded salt in India, is a by-product of Mithapur's water-management.

CSR Activity 4: Water management

Mithapur is located on the western most tip of Saurashtra Peninsula in the Jamnagar district of Gujarat is surrounded on three sides by the sea. Biggest concern here is unavailability of fresh water.Also average annual rainfall 12-15 inches. Salinity ingress because of high runoff and slow soil retention rate. No water harvesting infrastructure.

CSR Activity 5: Project Whale Shark

A life-sized model of a whale shark was inflated at the premises of Tata Chemicals. This campaign was to spread awareness about the worlds largest fish, which was till recently being brutally slaughtered along the Gujarat coast for export .

This campaign has been spearheaded by the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) and its partner, the International Fund for Animal Welfare and is being actively supported by Tata Chemicals. Launch of a street play with a message on protecting the Whale Shark on the International Theatre Day at Mithapur, Gujarat. Carried the play through major fishing harbours and ports, such as Beyt Dwarka, Somnath, Veraval, and Okha.

The second phase of this campaign took off at Tata Chemicals in Mithapur in April with the 40 ft inflatable model of the whale shark in the background. The street plays were conducted at various places along the coast of Gujarat with the lifesized inflatable model drawing huge crowds.

Conclusion:
CSR program is commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen and industry partner, working with communities and governments to help advance social and economic well-being and enable people around to realize their full potential.
