ABSTRACT

Mid-air displays which project floating images in free space have

been seen in SF movies. for several decades.

Recently. Digital Signage , 3D Home TV, Holographic Display Technologies.

How to provide Tactile Sensation.

Goal

To produce a 3D force field that is sufficient for handling virtual

objects with hands.

Innovations

This tactile display utilizes one of the nonlinear phenomena of

ultrasound: acoustic radiation pressure.

Vision This device could be an alternative way to provide tactile feedback with no mechanical attachments.

INTRODUCTION

Haptic Interaction Techniques.

Interactive systems which aim to enable the users to handle 3D graphic objects with their hands in 3D Free Space.

One strategy is to provide Tactile Feedback in 3D Free Space.

APPLICATION

3D Modeling Software's, Video Games.

Vision based Hand Tracking System

Acoustic Radiation Pressure field on the usess hand when they

touch 3D Virtual Objects.

Airborne Ultra Sound applied directly on the skin. So, user touch and feel 3D objects in 3D free space.

MID-AIR DISPLAY EXPERIMENTS TO CREATE NOVEL USER INTERFACES

User Interface(UI) The Fog Screen could serve as a secondary display on a desktop environment, enabling a large virtual desktop, while being translucent and penetrable, thus being Suitable for offices

Future User Interface And Display Technologies

-Multi Touch Screens

Present computer I/O peripherals

MID-AIR USER INTERFACES

To support Multiple Users in Interfaces

Two Users interact with the application simultaneously from opposite sides of the screen without obstructing one another, maintaining personalized

views of the shared work space and face-face contact

RESULTS

We have demonstrated several types of applications at numerous trade

shows, special events and conferences. In our public demos, audiences have interacted with the walk-through screen over extended periods of time and reactions have been enthusiastic throughout.

The user can move freely and also reach through or walk to the other side of the screen

CONCLUSION

Mid-air displays have initially been a novelty, but in the long term they could become lower-cost and have a big impact also on application areas such as CAD, data visualization, digital signage, tele-presence, tele-immersion and tele-conferencing, simulation and entertainment.
