Dance Activity
Step 1: Have everyone stand in a circle and keep the pulse of the song by clapping. When singing the chorus
everyone is still clapping, but during the verses everyone will make the following actions:
- Beaux messieurs= bow
- Belles dames= curtsey
- Soldats= salute
- Musciens= air guitar

Step 2: Have everyone walk in a circle. When singing the line on y danse we all come together in the circle.
Once the chorus is over we stand still and do the appropriate verse actions

Step 3: Have everyone find a partner, and then dance/circle around each other. During the verses they will do
the action towards their partner.

Historical Background

Sur le Pont d'Avignon is a French Folk Song about the Pont DAvignon that dates back to the 15th century.
Under this bridge, a man and a woman would dance together, and would do the appropriate gestures for each
verse.
