's brake vaive is used to activate the automatic com:
pressed air brake in accordance with the conditions laid down in Leaflet
540.
It is advisable in ghis respect to take adventage of all that the
‘most up-to-date equipment hes to offer.
‘As well a6 controlling the brake application and release functions
drivers’ brake valves must be able to switch to automatic control when
the main brake pipe is Isolated, during emergeney braking and breking by
auiometic release of the dead man’s handle and when there are substantial
leakages in the main brake pipe system.
‘The driver's brake valve consists of :
‘one or more controls to be operated by the driver,
+a transmission unit, which sets on the mal
bbrake pipe and
+ additional monitoring gear.
The driver's brake valve draws in air from tho comprestod air
‘wpply unit.
1-OPERATIONAL FEATURES
1.1 - ft i advisable to fit @ rotating control device to the driver's
brake valve. The rotation plane may be horizontal or vertical (preferably
vertical, see Appendix 1),
OR
% 1.2 - The control device must include the following positions =
«filing position
running position
+ service application position (s)
When passing from the running position to the braking
position the operator must move the control device
in an anticlockwise direction on the horizontal plane,
towards the driver on the vertical plane.
13+ Graduated application and release can be achioved by pos-
joning OF timing of the eontral movement, denending on the design of
‘the driver's brake valve.
+ 1.4 There must be a device allowing pressure in the main brake
pipe to tise temporarily and for a limited period sbove the rated level
(see point 4.4).
‘* 15 ~ Thoro must be a means of closing off the sir supply to the
main brake pipe when the latter is under pressure (neutral position, see
point 5).
1.6 - Dynamic or slectropneumatic brakes should be able to be
‘operated from the control device; an extra piece of equipment is added.
