1 Scope
Th is part of I EC 61 000 for EMC imm un i ty requ iremen ts applies to electrical and electron ic
equ ipmen t intended for use in residen tial, comm ercial , pu bl ic and li g ht-in du strial locations.
I m mu nity requ irem ents in the frequ ency ran ge 0 H z to 400 GH z are covered. N o tests n eed to
be performed at frequ encies wh ere no requiremen ts are speci fi ed.
Th is g eneric EMC imm un i ty stan dard is appl icabl e i f no relevan t dedicated produ ct or produ ct-
fam il y EM C im mu nity standard exists.
Th is standard defi nes the im mun i ty test requ iremen ts for equi pmen t speci fi ed in the scope in
relati on to con tinu ous and transi en t, con du cted and radi ated distu rbances, inclu din g
electrostatic discharg es.
The im mu nity requ iremen ts have been selected to ensu re an adequ ate level of im mu nity for
equ ipmen t operatin g with in residen tial, comm erci al, pu blic an d lig ht-indu strial locations. Th e
levels do not, however, cover extrem e cases, wh ich may occur at any l ocation , bu t with an
extremel y low probabi li ty of occu rrence. N ot all distu rbance phen om ena h ave been inclu ded
for testi ng pu rposes in th is standard, bu t on l y those considered as relevan t for the equ ipm en t
covered by th is stan dard. These test requ iremen ts represent essential electrom ag netic
compatibil i ty i m mu n ity requ i rem en ts. They are speci fied for each port considered.

4 Performance criteria
A fu nctional description and a defin i ti on of th e equ i pm ent under test's (EU T) speci fic
performance cri teria, durin g or as a consequ ence of im mu nity testin g , shal l be provided by the
man u facturer and n oted i n the test report. Th ey sh al l be consisten t wi th one of th e followin g
g eneral criteria for each test as specifi ed in Tabl e 1 to Tabl e 4:
a) Performance criterion A: The EU T shal l con tinu e to operate as in tended durin g and after
th e test. N o deg radation of performance or loss of fu ncti on is al lowed below a
performance l evel speci fied by the manu facturer, wh en the EU T is u sed as in tended. I f th e
performance level is n ot speci fied by th e manu facturer, thi s may be deri ved from the
produ ct description an d docu men tation and wh at th e u ser may reasonably expect from the
equ ipment i f u sed as in tended.
b) Perform ance cri terion B: The EU T shal l continue to operate as in tended after the test. N o
deg radation of performance or loss of fu ncti on is allowed below a performance l evel
specified by the m anu factu rer, when th e EU T is u sed as i n ten ded. Th e performance level
may be replaced by a permissible l oss of performance. H owever, du ri ng the test

deg radation of perform ance is all owed bu t no ch ang e of actu al operating state or stored
data is allowed. I f the m ini mu m performance level or the perm issibl e perform ance loss is
n ot speci fied by the manu facturer, either of these may be deri ved from the produ ct
description and docu mentation and what th e u ser m ay reasonably expect from the
equ ipment i f u sed as in tended.
c) Perform ance criterion C: Temporary loss of function is al lowed du rin g th e test, provided
th e fu nction i s self-recoverable or can be restored by the operation of the con trols.
I f, as a resu lt of the application of the tests defin ed i n this stan dard, the EU T becom es
dang erous or u nsafe, i t sh all be deem ed to have fai led the test.
I f the equ ipm en t is part of a system, or can be connected to au xiliary equ ipmen t, the
equ ipmen t sh all be tested whi le con nected to th e m inimu m represen tative con fig uration of
au xi liary equ ipmen t necessary to exercise th e ports. Au xili ary equ ipment m ay be si mu l ated.
I n cases wh ere a man u factu rer's speci fication requ ires external protecti on devices or
measures wh ich are cl early speci fied in the u ser's m anu al, the test requ iremen ts of th is
standard shal l be appl ied wi th the external protecti on devices or measures in place.
I f th e equ ipm en t has a large nu mber of sim ilar ports or ports wi th m an y sim i lar conn ections, a
su fficient num ber shall be selected to si mu late actu al operatin g conditi ons and to ensu re th at
al l th e differen t types of term in ati on are covered. J ustification for th e selection of the tested
ports sh al l be inclu ded in th e test report.
The tests shall be carried ou t at one si ng le set of parameters wi thi n the operating ran ges of
temperatu re, hu mi dity an d atmospheric pressure speci fied for th e product and at th e rated
su pply vol tag e, un less oth erwise indicated in th e basic standard.
6 Product documentation
I f th e m anu factu rer is usi ng h is own specification for an acceptable level of EMC performance
or degradation of EMC performance du ri ng or after the testin g requ ired by th is standard, this
fact sh all be stated in the user docum en tati on . Th is specificati on itsel f shal l be made avai labl e
u pon request.
7 Applicability
The appl icati on of tests for eval u ation of im mu nity depends on th e particu lar equ ipmen t, i ts
con fi g uration , i ts ports, its technolog y and its operating conditions.
Tests shal l be appl ied to th e relevan t ports of th e equ ipmen t according to Table 1 to Table 4.
Tests shal l on l y be carried ou t wh ere th e relevan t ports exist.
8 Measurement uncertainty
Wh ere g u idance for the assessmen t of the i nstru men tation u ncertain ty of an im mu nity test is
specified in I EC TR 61 000-1 -6 or i n the corresponding basic standard, this shou ld be
followed.
The descripti on of the test, relevant g enerator, appropriate m ethods, and the set-u p to be
used are g i ven i n basic standards, wh ich are referred to in Table 1 to Table 4.
The conten ts of th ese basic stan dards are not repeated here, however m odi fications or
addi tional in form ati on needed for th e practical appl ication of the tests are g i ven in th is
standard.

norm e, ce fait doit être i ndiqué dans la docu men tation desti née au x u til isateurs. Cette
spécification doit être el le-même dispon ible su r dem ande.
7 Applicabilité
L'applicati on des essais pour l'évalu ation de l'imm un i té dépend du type particu l ier
d’équ ipemen t, de sa config u ration , de ses accès, de sa technolog ie et de ses con ditions de
fonctionnemen t.
Les essais doi ven t être appl iqu és au x accès appropriés de l’équ ipem ent con formémen t au x
Tableau x 1 à 4. Ces essais ne doiven t être effectu és qu e lorsqu e l es accès correspondan ts
existen t.
I l peu t être déterminé à partir de l'étu de des caractéristiqu es électriqu es et de l'u sag e d’un
équ ipemen t particu li er qu e certains des essais son t i nappropriés et, en conséquence i nu ti les.
Dans u n tel cas, la décision et la justification de ne pas effectu er l'essai doi ven t être
consig nées dans le rapport d'essai .
8 Incertitude de mesure
Si des li gnes directrices pou r l'évalu ati on de l'incerti tu de de l'instru men tation d'un essai
d'im mu ni té son t spéci fi ées dans l'I EC TR 61 000-1 -6 ou dans la norme de base
correspondan te, i l con vi ent de les observer.
Les essais doi ven t être effectués selon une procédu re bi en défi nie et reproducti ble.
Les essais doi ven t être effectu és comme des essais indépendan ts les u ns des au tres. Les
essais peu ven t être réal isés dans n’i mporte qu el ordre. Des u ni tés identiqu es peu ven t être
u tilisées pou r des essais en paral lèle et ces in form ati ons doi ven t être consign ées dans l e
rapport d'essai .
La descri ption de l 'essai , les caractéristiques du g énérateu r, les méth odes appropriées et le
