Infantry units are the primary manoeuvre elements within the Defence Forces and provide a key element of combat power in close combat. Suitable for military operations throughout the spectrum of military operations, infantry units can operate effectively in most terrain and weather. Infantry units attack to defeat enemy forces, or to seize and retain terrain, using manoeuvre, firepower and leadership through close combat offensive action. Irish infantry forces are classified as either light infantry or mechanized wheeled infantry Les units d'infanterie sont les principaux pions de manuvre des forces de la Dfense et constituent les lments cls de la puissance en combat courte distance. Adaptes tout type de missions militaires, les units d'infanterie sont capable d'agir avec efficacit sur tous les types de terrain et par tous les temps. Elles attaquent en vue de vaincre les forces ennemies, ou pour s'emparer et tenir le terrain, combinant la manuvre, le feu et l'initiative dans ces action offensives de combat courte distance. Les forces de l'Infanterie irlandaise sont classes soit en infanterie lgre soit en infanterie motorise blinde.

Structure des bataillons d'infanterie

Structure of Infantry Battalions

The organisation of the battalion is a base model for planning purposes. The battalion comander will assess each operation and determine alterations to that model consistent with the needs of the operation and the availability of resources. Within the battalion the commander has control over his manoeuvre elements and the elements of his weapons company. It is within his capability to mix and match these resources to fit any particular operation. L'organisation du bataillon est le modle de base utilis en planification. Le commandant de bataillon apprcie les conditions de chaque opration et dtermine les adaptations apporter au modle en cohrence avec les besoins et les ressources disponibles. Au sein du bataillon le commandant garde le contrle de ses units de manuvre et des lments de sa compagnie d'appui. Il conserve l'initiative de rarticuler ces moyens pour s'adapter toute opration particulire.
