1. SCOPE
The objective of the Pneumatic leak testing is to finding and locating of leak in reinforcement pad of
nozzle & manholes and etc when required by codes, construction and / or inspection & test
procedure in Improve Water Supply Quality at ------ Project.
This accomplished by applying a solution to local area of the interested surface causing the
formation of bubbles as leakage gas passes through the solution

2. DEFINITIONS
2.1. COMPANY
2.2. CONTRACTOR
2.3. SUBCONTRACTOR
2.4. Shall Indicates a mandatory requirement
2.5. Should Indicates a recommended practice

3. STANDARDS AND REFERENCES

3.2. ITP for Tankage Construction
3.3. Welding Control Procedure
3.4. ASME B 31.3
3.5. ASME-V Non Destructive Examination, Edition Jun 2007 ,Article 10 Leak Testing

4. RESPONSIBILITIES
The following are the responsibilities of personnel involved in the scope of this method statement;

4.1. Production Foreman - Preparation of Item to be tested

4.2. Test Performer - Execute the test

5. QUALIFICATION
5.1. Personnel who performing this examination shall meet the following,

5.1.1.Passes the Vision Examination (Eye Test) consisting of natural or corrected near distance
acuity in at least one eye such that each individual is capable of reading Jaeger No.2 test
chart or equivalent at distance not less than 12 inches (30.5 cm).

5.1.2.The operator shall be competent in the technique of the pneumatic testing, including
performing the examination, interpreting and evaluating the results.

5.1.3.QC Inspector.

6. GENERAL
The following requirements as specified in this procedure shall apply,

6.1 Pressure gauge

6.2 Test pressure
6.3 Soaking time
6.4 Acceptance Criteria
7. EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS

7.1 Bubble Solution

7.1.1 The bubble forming solution shall produce a film that does not break away from the area
to be tested and the bubbles formed shall not break rapidly due to air drying or low
surface tension. The number of bubbles contained in the solution should be minimized to
reduce the problem of discriminating between existing bubbles and those caused by
leakage. Household soap or detergents are not permitted as substitutes for bubble
testing solutions.

7.1.2 A Soap film solution shall be used for bubble forming.

7.1.3 The bubble forming solution shall be compatible with the temperature conditions of the
test.

7.2 Pressurizing Gases

The test gas will normally be air; however, inert gasses may be used.

7.3 Pressure Source

The required Pressure can be developed by any convenient method (e.g. compressed
air, pressure hand pump or compressor).
The gauge shall have a range of 0 psi to 30 psi. Gauge shall be calibrated requirements
as per the equipment Calibration Procedure).Calibration certificates shall be made
available to inspection personnel prior to commencement of the test.

8. TEST PROCEDURE
8.1 Soak Time
Prior to examination the test pressure shall be held for a minimum of 15 min.
8.2 Surface Temperature
As standard technique, the temperature of the surface of the part to be examined shall
not be below 40F (5C) or above 125F (50C) throughout the examination. Local
heating or cooling is permitted provided temperature remain in the range of 40F (5C) to
125F (50C) during the examination. Where is impractical to comply with the foregoing
temperature limitations, other temperature may be used provided that the procedure is
demonstrated.

8.3 Procedure

8.3.1. Remove weld slag, mud, dirt, and other debris from all areas to be solution film tested

8.3.2. Connect test assembly to the weep hole in the reinforcing pad plate.

8.3.4. Pressurize minimum 15 psig for reinforcing pad of nozzle / manhole

Do not exceed these pressures
Note: Never use oxygen or combustibles, such as propone and acetylene for the
pressurizing gas..

8.4 Application of Solution

The bubble forming solution shall be applied to the surface to be tested by flowing,
spraying or brushing the solution over the examination areas after pressurized.

8.5 Pressure Retention

The required partial pressure shall be maintained for at least 30sec examination time.

8.6 Test Pressure

Minimum 15 psig for reinforcing pad of nozzle / manhole

8.7 Lighting and Visual Aids

The recommended light intensity at the examination surface / site shall be 100 foot-
candles (1000 lux). The light source may be by any suitable e.g. torchlight, spotlight, etc.

8.8 Indication of Leakage

The presence of continuous bubble growth on the surface of the material or weld seam
indicates leakage through an orifice passage(s) in the region under examination.

8.9 Post-Test Cleaning

After testing, cleaning shall be performed by wet cloth.

8.10 Grease shall be applied in vent hole after completion of leak test.

9. EVALUATION OF INDICATION

9.1 Acceptance Criteria

Unless specified is special requirements, the area under test is acceptable when no
continuous bubble formation is observed.

10. REPORTS
When the weld being examined is acceptable the Pneumatic Test, Report shall be issued and
submitted for CONTRACTOR / COMPANY for review.
