Wire antennas use a single electric cable for radiation, and not a aluminium tube by eg. For more
efficiency, the lenght of the HF wire is quiet long (between 20 &30 meters for a “folded dipole” )
wich is not quiet easy sometimes to install.
The standard “folded dipole” ( the wire makes a rectangular form) covers the whole HF band (1-8
to 30 Mhz) without re ajustement.
The lenght of the “loop” antenna is 50 meters and integrates an electronic tuner. The whole LOOP
kit provides an more efficient radiation than the “folded dipole” system.
No grounding is requested except the transceiver one.
This document target to inform you on how to install an HF antenna in base configuration.
2. Antenne installation :
Remind that the radiation of a wire antenna is perpendicular regarding the plan formed by the
wire : to radiate to the north ( and south) the wire should be installed East - West.
> If network with few HF mobile station : install your dipole horizontaly.
> If network with a lot of HF mobile stations : install base antennas in “inverted V”
configuration. The center of the dipole is the “hight” point, fixed on the mast or a pipe.
Keep away from ground or fixation point from 3 or 4 meters each side of the antenna.
- a well horizontal plan formed by the square wire is the best for a kind of omnidirectionnal
radiation and will help for short distance contact. If not horizontal, the radiation pattern will be
modify, wich is not a problem, but proceed by radio test.
- If the antenna plan forms a real square, the radiation will be the same into the fourth
directions.
- the whole 50m antenna cable supplied should be installed. If you have no place enought, make a
rectangular or other form, with the wire.
- Use pipes, trees, or walls to fixe the wire but keep the wire away from 3 or 4 meters from
fixation points.
- The tuner box has to be outside and is part of the antenna system. Fix the tuner also as higt as
possible and protect it from sun beams if possible.
- Avoid traction of the wire on the tuner connection by respecting the way to fix it, shown
here bellow.

The coaxial cable is not and electrical cable and is fragile : don’t make knots. Tight strongly with hand,
not with tooll the connector to the center of the antenna. Protect this connection with the
amalgamating tape supplied.
3. Other considerations :
1
As hight is the antenna, as better will be the efficiency, as clear will be the radio signal received.
2.
Radio room should be ideally a clean and discret place. The radio can be set up into the radio room
and a optional external loudspeaker can be placed into another office room by eg.
4.
Install the ground set supplied with the base station. Connect it to the ground screw
on the bottom side of the transceiver. Dig the stick in the ground as deep as possible ( the top of
the stick can be at 50cm down the ground).
The same grounding set can be used for other units, HF or VHF.
5.
Keep radios and batteries away from sun beams.
