Palaipaphos, gravee en l'honneur d'une fille de Th6od6ros, le nom d' 'ApA4,co.
Ne serait-ce pas le nom de la st6phanophore? Le nom de l'athlophore se lit
Crateia76, mais il faut se souvenir que l'athlophore de io7/6 av. J.-C. s'appelait
IlIouxpOLretcx et que la deformation d'un nom en d6motique est frequente77. La
phosphore s'appelait Th6odoris d'aprEs le nom de son p&re78.
Le strat6ge HMlenos79, precepteur d'Alexandre I, devient pretre a vie de la
mere du roi, Cleopatre II180. La soeur, E1t4u3pLov, pretresse elle aussi81, porterait
peut-etre un nom egyptien82, ce qui serait assez 6tonnant. Pourrait-on supposer
ici une autre graphie pour le nom grec eocu,ukptov83 ?
I1 n'y a pas que les strateges de Chypre qui furent admis a la dignite de
pretres eponymes. Le pretre Melancomas84, dont nous ignorons la filiation, est
tres probablement l'ltolien Melancomas, fils de Philodamos, gouverneur de la
vile de Kition vers I60/50 av.J.-C. et plus tard rye u v xal 7rnr&py- t'
O&vpiOv ainsi que pretre des Dieux tverg6tes. Son fils homonymne lui succ6da k
Kition85.
Le dernier pretre connu de nom, On6simos (84/83 av.J.-C.), est lui aussi
originaire de Chypre86.
