Synopsis:
The article, "Effectiveness of Madre de Cacao leaves extract Gliricidia sepium, Guava leaves extract
Psidium guajava & Natural Vinegar Dilute acetic acid in eradicating mosquito wrigglers Culicidae
diptera", aimed to create an organic mosquito repellent that will help to lessen the amount of
mosquitoes in the environment. The task at hand persisted for twenty-four hours in total. While this
article produced the treatments consisted of three separate experiments containing six larvae
grouped in a Parallel Group Design, and each treatment contained different concentrations of Madre
de Cacao leaf extract, guava leaf extract, and natural vinegar. It was revealed the existence of
bioactive compounds like alkaloid substances, saponins and the flavonoids, tannins and the
coumarins on mosquitoes suggests that the extracts of guava leaves extract, organic vinegar, and
extract of Madre de cacao leaf could all be potential organic larvicides and alternatives to synthetic
mosquito pesticides. The findings of the study suggest utilizing Madre de cacao leaf extract as a
natural larvicide on home insects to reduce the unfavorable side effects of conventional pesticides,
particularly in areas where the plant grows abundantly and in damp areas where mosquitoes are
common. Further research has revealed aside from the leaves you should substitute other parts of
the Madre de Cacao and Guava.

Points of Agreement/Disagreement:
The abstract clearly illustrates that the authors trying to develop an all-natural insect repellent that
will aid in reducing the number of mosquitoes in the environment. Many significant results were
noted in the first part of the discussion. The study's findings suggest that natural larvicides like
Madre de cacao leaf extract, guava leaf extract, and natural vinegar could be an alternative to
commercial mosquito pesticides because they contain bioactive substances that are present on
mosquitoes, including alkaloids, saponins, tannins, flavonoids, and coumarins.. However, in the
middle part of the article it states that the higher the concentration of extract, the lower the survival
rate of mosquito wrigglers and it is said also that the bark of the Madre de Cacao has a higher
concentration compare to the leaves much better at the first place they used the bark instead of the
leaves to do a less urgent procedure. Towards the end of the discussion, the authors admitted to the
best procedures to be used in this research and make a recommendation for the next researchers to
come up a better results (p.26) which adds a great impact and creditable in the piece as a whole.
Insights:
Protection of the environment is now prioritized. A pesticide must not kill target organisms
excessively while still being beneficial to the ecosystem in order to be considered appropriate.
Phytochemicals, that are generally safe, affordable, and accessible in many parts of the world, may
be helpful. The management of mosquito larvae using Madre de cacao leaf extract, guava leaf
extract, and natural vinegar has been successful, and since this strategy is easy to apply, inexpensive,
and doesn't harm people or the ecosystem as a whole, it should be employed.
