These preparatory exercises will help you to play lines over a section of music having an implied 2 over 3 metric modulation. ie when the rhythm
section go into a 2 over 3 modulation you can play crotchet-quaver lines with the appropriate articulation. This ends up sounding like you're
playing swing quavers in the new / implied (slower) tempo. The effect is even stronger if you play lines that have clear groups of four notes as in
much bebop playing. Of course you can also initiate a metric modulation yourself by playing a line like this and whether or not the rhythm section
go with you it will still sound like you're playing at a slower tempo
