So, youve decided to study at the Human and Social Sciences faculty at
the University of Lille a great choice!

Its the biggest university for languages, literature, arts, humanities and
social sciences north of Paris. Youll find it offers a highly diverse range of
quality courses and internationally-renowned research laboratories.
Its a socially responsible university, with an active sustainable
development policy. Youll also be able to enjoy a cultural life teeming
with activities, including theatre, concerts, films, exhibitions and a wide
range of associations and clubs.

Le service Relations Internationales
Le service Relations Internationales est situ dans le btiment A au 3me
tage. Il taccueillera du lundi au vendredi.
Il existe deux bureaux selon si tu es tudiant international en programme
dchange ou hors programme dchange (free mover). Tu y seras reu
pour tinscrire luniversit et obtenir ta carte dtudiant. Un bureau Titre
de sjour est l pour taccompagner, sur rendez-vous, dans tes dmarches
auprs de la prfecture.
Une salle quipe dordinateurs est aussi ta disposition.

International relations
The International Relations Office
The International Relations department is located in building A on the 3rd
floor. It is open Monday to Friday.
There are two offices, depending on whether you are an international
student on an exchange programme or a free mover (not on an exchange
programme). This is where you should go to register at the university,
and where you will receive your student card. You can also make an
appointment with our residency permit office, which helps students
submit their applications to the Prefecture.
You can also use a fully equipped computer room.

Ta carte dtudiant
La carte dtudiant et les certificats de scolarit attestent de ton statut
dtudiant. Ils te seront dlivrs dans un dlai de 2 semaines suivant ton
inscription au bureau Incoming et ds linscription au BAEI.
Elle te permet :
de payer tes repas dans les restaurants et caftrias du CROUS,
demprunter des livres la bibliothque,
de profiter de tarifs rduits dans les commerces, muses ou salles
de spectacle.

Pour pouvoir te connecter, un identifiant et un mot de passe te seront
donns lors de ton inscription par le BAEI et aprs ton inscription par le
bureau INCOMING.

WIFI
Tous les campus de lUniversit de Lille sont couverts par le rseau
eduroam. Tu peux te connecter gratuitement grce lidentifiant et au mot
de passe que tu reois avec ta carte dtudiant.
Pour te connecter sur ton ordinateur portable, la premire fois tu dois le
configurer en allant sur le rseau aide-wifi. Tu seras ensuite directement
connect eduroam. Cest inutile pour ton Smartphone.

Your student card
Your student card and enrolment certificates are proof of your student
status. The card will be issued within 2 weeks after you have registered at
the Incoming office and with the BAEI.
It enables you to:
pay for your meals in university operated restaurants and canteens,
borrow books from the library,
qualify for discounts in shops, museums and theatres.
If you lose your card, you will need to go to the registration office (Building
A Student Union - Forum +1).
You will be charged 10 for a replacement card.

The ENT (digital workspace)

Student life
The ENT keeps all digital services and resources in one place. From your
ENT, youll be able to:
access a virtual desktop and a personal storage space for your
documents (Owncloud) that allows you to share them
access your university email account. Make sure you log in
regularly, as this is the address all the various university departments
will use to contact you,
view your administrative information, marks and exam results. NB:
exchange programme students do not have access to the scolarit
(education) section.
To log in, you will be given your own personal login details when you register
at the BAEI and a few days after your registration by the INCOMING office.

WIFI
All University of Lille campuses have wi-fi coverage on the
eduroam network. Use the personal login details issued with
your student card to access free internet.
To access wi-fi on your laptop the first time, you will need to configure
your device by visiting the aide-wifi network. You will then be connected
to eduroam. This is not necessary for your smartphone.

Le systme universitaire
Au dbut de chaque semestre, les emplois du temps sont affichs dans
les secrtariats des diffrents U.F.R. ou dpartements. Tu peux aussi les
trouver en libre accs dans la salle informatique du service Relations
Internationales.
Ta prsence en cours est obligatoire. Il existe diffrents type de cours :
Les CM, cours magistraux, en amphithtre.
Les TD, travaux dirigs, en salle de cours par groupe de 30-40
tudiants.
La vie universitaire

Les TP, travaux pratiques, en petits groupes.

Lorganisation des tudes universitaires comporte trois cycles : Licence,
Master, Doctorat.

Tu vas avoir 2 types dexamens : le contrle continu tout au long du

semestre et des examens finaux. Une moyenne sera calcule la fin du
semestre. Si tu obtiens moins de 10/20 tu devras te prsenter la session
de rattrapage.
Attention: si tu es free mover noublie pas de tinscrire aux examens via
lENT !

The university system
At the start of each semester, your timetable will be displayed in the offices
of the various academic departments and faculties. You can also view
them at any time in the International Relations Office computer room.
Attendance of lectures is compulsory. Lessons come in several different
formats:
Lectures, in a lecture hall (CM).
Tutorials, in classrooms holding groups of 30 to 40 students. (TD)
Practical work, in small groups. (TP)
University studies are organised into three separate levels: Bachelors,
Masters and PhD.

Student life
You will be assessed in two different ways: continuous assessment
throughout the semester, and final exams during the exam week. Your
average mark will be calculated at the end of the semester. If your mark is
below 10/20, you will be required to attend the re-sit session.
NB: If you are a free mover, dont forget to register for your exams via your
ENT!

Languages resources center

The Language Resources Centre is specially designed for those learning
languages as part of a guided self-study programme. It provides resources
relevant to your coursework or self-study programme in 23 different
languages.
A support team staff, tutors and lecturers is also on hand to help you.
More than just a cultural meeting place, the centre offers films in their
original language that you can watch with your friends. You can also sign
up for teletandem and tandem sessions, a great way to learn languages
autonomously. These sessions involve two students with different first
languages who agree to meet regularly (via Skype or in person). Participants
are thus able to explore a foreign language as well as learn about their
partners culture and way of life. They provide reciprocal support while
learning each others native language. For English, German and Dutch,
a semi-guidedTandem course is available for 3 Building B2 - Level 2

teaches French with the aim of enabling students whether beginning
or advanced - to explore the wealth and beauty of the language and its
culture, as well as the secrets of academic methodology.
All French as a Foreign Language (FLE) courses offered by the DEFI
correspond to one of the six different levels (A1/A2/B1/B2/C1/C2) of the
Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and are
grounded in the task-based communicative and intercultural approach.
All international students follow a course tailored to their particular

linguistic requirements in French, which forms an integral part of their
university degree (bachelor, Masters or PhD).
Students registered for the DEFI course have access to all university
departments and services (university library, career and information
services, CROUS [Regional Student Welfare Offices], etc.) and can take
part in the full range of sporting, artistic and cultural activities (festivals,
film, theatre, concerts, exhibitions, etc.) on offer at the University of Lille 3
SHS. Student enrolled in a DUEF course will be issued a study visa.

Les bibliothques de lUniversit de Lille, Sciences Humaines et Sociales
comprennent une bibliothque universitaire centrale et 19 bibliothques
associes de composantes (UFR et laboratoires). Elles conservent plus
dun million de livres, empruntables ou consultables sur place, et donnent
accs un corpus important de ressources en ligne (revues et bases de
donnes) .

The library
The libraries at the University of Lille, Human and Social Sciences, include
a central library and 19 associated branch libraries (located in academic
departments and laboratories). Together the collection numbers over
a million books, which can be either borrowed or consulted on site, and
provide access to a significant collection of online resources (journals
and databases, etc.). The central library offers a varied range of spaces
designed for working individually or in groups (around 1,000 workstations),
unlimited access to almost 160,000 documents, and a reading area
and cultural events space for relaxation and leisure. It also boasts ideal
research facilities, with a dedicated space for Masters and PhD students

de CV ou encore dans la cration dactivit (entreprise, association,
vnement) grce au Hubhouse.
The BAIP (an agency that helps students find a job or work placement)
provides assistance for those looking for positions, writing covering letters
and CVs and creating start-ups (businesses, associations, events, etc.)
through its Hubhouse service.

SPORT Building A - Lobby

The SUAPS (University department for
Physical and Sporting Activities) offers Monday - Friday: 9h - 12h
numerous practice slots for 33 different 13h - 17h
sports. Anyone can enrol, whatever their
playing level. There are two types of sporting activities: training leading
to a qualification (UE10 APSA Sporting and Artistic Physical Activities
3ECTS) and personal training for general health and well-being.

Ancien amphi entirement convertit en vritable thtre en 1994, cest
le parfait quipement dtude pour les lves en Art de la Scne. Cest la
que se droule en grande partie le Festival Interuniversitaire du Spectacle
Vivant.

Chaque anne depuis plus de 30 ans, luniversit Lille , Sciences
Humaines et Sociales, organise un festival qui a la particularit de mettre
en concurrence des projets de spectacles vivants de toutes formes, ports
par des troupes tudiantes de toute la France et de ltranger.

La Galerie Commune (Tourcoing)
Cette galerie dexposition est commune lEcole Rgionale Suprieure
dExpression Plastique (ERSEP) et au dpartement Arts Plastiques de
lUniversit de Lille 3 Tourcoing. Cette galerie se positionne la fois
comme un lieu de diffusion de la cration plastique contemporaine et
comme un outil pdagogique pour les enseignants et tudiants du Ple
Arts Plastiques.

The only campus cinema with www.kino-cine.com
regular screenings, the Kino-
Cin is listed as an Art et Essai venue. It offers
a selection of some of the best contemporary
films in metropolitan Lille, including brand new
releases as well as classic and cult cinema.
It organises a wide range of special events
involving directors, cinema critics and experts
from other related fields. The venue is a multi-purpose 350-seat theatre.

ideal study venue for performing arts students. The Thtre is also home
to the bulk of the Festival Interuniversitaire du Spectacle Vivant (inter-

Sciences organised a unique festival that invites students from both France

The gallery features an eclectic mix of exhibition

Lille University - Human and Soical
Sciences. This gallery is dedicated to
both exhibiting contemporary plastic
arts and acting as an educational tool for
lecturers and students in the Plastic Arts
department.

La restauration traditionnelle servie dans les Restaurants Universitaires
(RU) propose un repas complet au tarif de 3,25 (1 plat + 3 priphriques).
Les RU sont ouverts du lundi au vendredi, midi et soir. Tu peux aussi profiter
dune restauration diversifie : sachet repas, brasserie, grill, sandwicherie,
pizzeria, saladerie, ptes fraches Les caftrias offrent des prestations
rapides, varies et un prix imbattable adaptes aux rythmes des cours.
Au Flors caf tu pourras profiter rgulirement de manifestations autour
du thtre, de concerts, dexpositions et de rencontres.

The University catering service, run by CROUS, offers a wide range of

menus. Traditional dishes are served in the University restaurants (RU),
with meals priced at 3.25 (1 course + 3 side dishes). University restaurants
are open from Monday to Friday, at lunchtime and in the evening. A wide
range of other options are also on offer, including bag lunches, bar food,
sandwiches, pizzas, salads, fresh pasta, etc. The University cafs serve a
wide range of fast food at unbeatable prices, with flexible opening hours
to suit students. Le Flors caf also hosts regular theatre events, concerts,
exhibitions and gatherings.

I always wanted to study abroad and Im glad to be at
Lille University, Human and Social Sciences. At first,
I applied everywhere in France however I have many
friends in Lille so coming here made me pleasure. I came
2 or 3 times before and I find that Lille is an amazing
city with a special charm that I couldnt describe. I feel
at home, the Lillois are very welcoming and there
are international students everywhere, so I never feel
alone. Besides, I love my master, the quality of French
education system is incredible and this experience
helped me to meet people from all over the country
and the continent; an opportunity very rewarding. This
master gave me the tools to grow professionally and
personally knowing that Im able to overcome my fears
and go beyond my limits! I will come to Lille again!
