This verb chart is meant to be a helpful reminder of basic verb tense formation, and should not be 
used as the “be all and end all” of tense study. The correct context is always needed when 
studying proper verb conjugation.

LE PASSÉ  Use the present tense of AVOIR or ÊTRE  Formation of the participe passé does not 
COMPOSÉ  as well as the participe passé (i.e. er = é, ir  follow a particilar pattern.  
  = i, re = u). ÊTRE is used for Dr. Mrs.

L’IMPARFAIT  Conjugate the verb in the present tense in  There are only two verbs that are irregular in 
  the nous form. Remove the “ons”. You  this tense : être and avoir.

N’oublie pas de faire l’accord du participe passé quand on utilise l’auxiliaire ÊTRE (le 
passé composé, le plus­que­parfait, etc.)
