Performance Notes
Come to the River is a lively piece that engages people in the rite of sprinkling. Its easy refrain allows
people to experience the ritual while still participating in the singing. The single most important key in
performing the piece is to keep the tempo lively. If it drags, the joyous effect is lost.
During the Easter season, we continue to make special celebration of our baptism and of our new
members and, as such, we need to celebrate the rite of sprinkling every Sunday during the season, which
ends on Pentecost. This song provides an easy and lively way to accompany the sprinkling. Its energetic
tempo keeps the ritual moving and enlivens people’s spirits as they experience the water touching their
faces.
