Bornem is one of the culturally
richest cities in Flanders, thanks to
some cash injection from the south
T
he quiet town of Bornem has so
much to see that a day, or even
a weekend, is never going to be
enough. You have, within the town and
its surroundings, no less than two cas-
tles, a hunting pavilion, three military
forts, two children’s farms, museums,
art galleries, churches and abbeys, a
brewery and nature reserves.
The region also has excellent walking
and cycling routes alongside the River
Scheldt, as it lazily loops around the
town on its way to Antwerp. What’s
more, it is liberally sprinkled with in-
viting restaurants keen to impress you
with local delicacies.
Located 20 kilometres southwest
of Antwerp, just off the busy N16,
Bornem first appeared on ninth centu-
ry maps, where it can be seen to hold
a strategic position near the conflu-
ence of the rivers Scheldt, Rupel and
Durme. The earliest known Lord of
Bornem is Lambrecht, who in 1007
was promoted to the position of Lord
of Ghent. From 1088 onwards, Wen-
emaar, a Templar Knight, boosted the
development of the town by allowing
the local monks to build an abbey.

From the mid-19th century, basket
weaving was a large and profitable lo-
cal industry. Its collapse in the 1950s
spurred the establishment of the in-
dustrial estate on the N16, which se-
cured local employment.
So what’s on the list for a day – or
more – in and around Bornem?

Bornem was catapulted into the public
eye a few years back with the popular
TV drama series Stille Waters. The pro-
gramme drew particular attention to De
Notelaer, an 18th-century hunting and
summer pavilion on the banks of the
Scheldt.
The showpiece of this building – con-
structed in the 1790s – is the octagonal
Italian Salon, with its parquet floor, pillars,
wall paintings of mythological figures by
Antoine Plateau and arabesques on the
dome. The Scheldt landscape is reflect-
ed in its huge mirrored doors.
The Flemish Community bought and re-
stored the building in the early 1980s
and opened it to the public. It is now
managed by Erfgoed Vlaanderen, the
Flemish Heritage Foundation. The suc-
cess of Stille Waters attracted other
Flemish productions to Bornem and its
surroundings; the area can be glimpsed
in the movies Team Spirit, Coco Flanel
and De Zaak Alzheimer.

Le nombre de participants se situe idéalement entre 4 et 6 patients.
L’objectif de cette activité est d’éveiller, chez les patients, une prise de conscience par rapport
à l’utilisation des médicaments. Un débat et un échange d’idées sont à favoriser mais il est essentiel
qu’ils soient encadrés par le pharmacien ou le médecin et l’infirmière de service.
Le jeu « éducation du patient » se compose d’un plateau de jeu, de 6 pions, d’un dé,
de 85 cartons reprenant les différentes questions et dont la couleur rappelle le thème abordé :

Chaque participant, à son tour, lance le dé et prend la 1re carte au-dessus du tas correspondant à la couleur
de la case où il s’est arrêté. Il lit la question posée à voie haute et essaie d’y répondre. Il est important
que le patient qui lit la question essaie d’y répondre avant que les autres participants n’apportent leur
point de vue. Un échange peut avoir lieu, pour autant que la discussion reste centrée sur la question. Le
pharmacien ou le médecin et l’infirmière apportent, si nécessaire, un complément d’information ou recti-
fient les réponses qui sont données.
Si le patient, titulaire du carton, a bien répondu à la question, il reçoit une carte « bravo » correspon-
dant à la couleur de la question. Il peut à nouveau rejouer. Dans le cas inverse, il ne reçoit pas de carte
« bravo » et cède son tour.

In mijn beroep als fotograaf speelt belichting een beslissende rol, zeker
bij het maken van portretten. Omdat elke huid uniek is, kies ik telkens voor
een specifieke belichting die de huid laat stralen en oplichten. Hierbij hou ik
rekening met de textuur, de teint en de oneffenheden. Een huid die het licht
goed reflecteert ziet er meteen mooier en jonger uit. Mijn werk bestaat erin
om de juiste belichting te kiezen en aan te passen aan het model zodat de
glans en de helderheid van de huid mooi tot uiting komen. Maar in het
dagelijkse leven kunnen vrouwen niet kiezen voor de juiste belichting
die hun schoonheid accentueert. In plaats daarvan kiezen ze voor een
dagelijkse verzorging die hun huid laat stralen.

Met de nieuwe lijn REPULPANT ECLAT , richt RoC® zijn wetenschappelijke expertise in het domein van
de huid op de weerkaatsing van het licht. Dankzij RoC® REPULPANT ECLAT zal de huid van de vrouw
stralen als nooit tevoren.
De wet van de weerkaatsing zegt dat een voorwerp zichtbaar is door het licht dat het weerkaatst. Een
spiegel, glas en water geven een ‘spiegelende’ lichtweerkaatsing; toch zijn de meeste voorwerpen die
wij zien zichtbaar als gevolg van de ‘diffuse’ weerkaatsing. Bij diffuse weerkaatsing komt niet alleen
het oppervlak van een voorwerp kijken: het meeste licht is afkomstig van onder het oppervlak.
RoC® heeft dit verschijnsel geanalyseerd en zijn meest recente onderzoek en expertise op het
gebied van de huid samengebracht. Op die manier heeft het met succes kunnen achterhalen hoe de
lichtweerkaatsing van de huid kan worden verbeterd, om vrouwen het geheim van een stralende huid
te bieden – het symbool van de jeugd. De RoC® REPULPANT ECLAT -lijn stimuleert een stralende
huid door in te werken op meerdere huidlagen om de manier waarop licht wordt geabsorbeerd en
weerkaatst, te verbeteren: fijne lijntjes en rimpels worden gladgestreken, de huid wordt verstevigd,
en de teint is gelijkmatig en straalt.

Een gave, stralende teint is een teken van gezondheid en jeugdigheid.
Daarom willen vrouwen een heldere huid. De huid straalt wanneer
de textuur glad is, waardoor het licht in alle richtingen kan worden
weerkaatst, en wanneer de teint gelijkmatig is; dat betekent
eenvormigheid van kleur, geen vlekkerigheid en zo weinig mogelijk
onvolkomenheden”, aldus Nathalie Issachar, hoofd Onderzoek en
Ontwikkeling bij RoC®. “Met de leeftijd gaat de vernieuwing van de
huidcellen vertragen, waardoor de huidtextuur ruwer wordt en de
pigmentverdeling, inclusief melanine en hemoglobine, ongelijk wordt.
Dit verklaart waarom, naarmate wij de 30 naderen, de huid haar
gezonde uitstraling begint te verliezen.

Droge huid: een grote zorg voor vrouwen
Ongeveer 35% van de vrouwen tussen 25 en 55 jaar kampt met een droge huid1. Genetische
factoren, externe agressoren zoals UV-stralen en allergenen bijvoorbeeld of medicatie kunnen
