In'Gethsemane!is!inspired!by!the!emotional!and!psychological!agony!of!the!

Messiah!one!night!before!His!Crucifixion!written!in!the!Gospel!of!Mark!and!Gospel!of!
Luke.!

Mark!14:!34!My!soul!is!overwhelmed!with!sorrow!to!the!point!of!death!
Luke!22:!39!!46!and!being!in!agony!He!was!praying!very!fervently;!and!his!sweat!
became!like!drops!of!blood,!falling!down!upon!the!ground!
!
!
Divided!into!three!part,!the!composition!starts!sorrowfully,!exploring!lower!
register!of!the!violin.!The!piece!grows!more!virtuosic!and!climaxed!at!the!second!part,!
which!explore!higher!register!of!the!violin,!showing!the!increasingly!overwhelming!
agony!and!struggle.!The!composition!closes!with!calm!and!ethereal!character!by!using!
violin!harmonics,!showing!complete!acceptance!of!the!Messiah!of!what!he!was!going!to!
face.!
