Workshop from the 2-3 July 2019 project funded by IFAD under the EC/CGIAR Programme ‘Putting
Research into Use for Nutrition, Sustainable, Agriculture and Resilience (PRUNSARY’
It is a pleasure to extend to you or a designated representative an invitation to the AfricaRice’s Inception
Workshop from the 2-3 July 2019 in Bouaké, Cote d'tvoire for the Sustainable and Diversified Rice-based
Farming Systems project.
The project is funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) under the European
Commission (EC}/Consultative Group for International Agriculture Research (CGIAR) Programme, ‘Putting
Research into Use for Nutrition, Sustainable, Agriculture and Resilience (PRUNSAR)’. The EC/CGIAR
Programme seeks to put research into use at scale in sustainable agricultural systems with large potential
impacts on nutrition and resilience.
Under PRUNSAR, AfricaRice’s Sustainable and Diversified Rice-based Farming Systems project seeks to
contribute to improving food and nutritional security and poverty alleviation of local communities in Africa
through sustainably intensifying rice-based farming systems while minimizing their environmental footprint
‘and adapting them to climate change. Specifically the project will serve to improve crop management
technologies/practices and diversifying farming systems. The direct target countries are Nigeria, Senegal and
Rwanda noting that innovations under development/to be developed are applicable to Céte d'Ivoire as well
as other countries in Africa.
The purpose of the Inception Workshop Is to share these Innovations, showcase AfricaRce’s related fleld
experiments and facilities to this end. The workshop’s specific aim s twofold to (i) share innovations developed
by AfricaRice and (ii) identify key Research and Development topics for collaboration among partners of the
project. The tentative agenda of the workshop is attached for your reference.
Please plan arrival on the 1* of July to Bouaké and departure on the 3-4 of July as per the program.
‘We expect that you will arrange for your travel to Bouaké, and cover your travel cost. We can assist to book
your hotel in Bouaké and will arrange for local transportation between Bouaké and AfricaRice’s M’be Research
Station where the Inception Workshop will be held.
