CHAPTER 1 – INTRODUCTION

1 OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE OF THIS MANUAL

This document is intended as a guide and information resource for planning and properly preparing a
site for the installation of the 3 monitor XT Suspension frame.
It provides pre–installation data, such as site preparation prior to delivery of the 3 monitor XT
Suspension frame, environmental and electrical requirements, and some additional planning aids.
This manual only considers preinstallation requirements for a 3 monitor XT Suspension frame.

2 RESPONSIBILITY OF PURCHASER/CUSTOMER
“Pre–installation” refers to work necessary to plan and prepare a site for installation of monitor
suspension whether included in a complete new system or being added to an existing X–Ray room.
The purchaser is responsible for pre–installation work, which includes the following:
D procurement of required materials,
D installation of material required before delivery of system components,
D cost of alterations and modifications when not specifically in the sales contract.
Delay, confusion and waste of manpower can be avoided by completing pre–installation planning and
works prior to beginning the installation.

3 DESCRIPTION OF THE PRODUCT

In basic configuration, two 20” (51 cm) monitors are mounted on a 3 monitor XT Suspension frame.
The 3 monitor XT Suspension frame is mainly supplied with any vascular single plane system; it
enhances the X–Ray functions by adding the ability to show the image monitor in Examination Room.
Cardiac investigation requires a physiological monitor.
Based on x, y and z movements, it is a counterbalanced monitor suspension not adjusted on site, as
follows:
D for two 20” (51 cm) DISTAR monitors (DISTAR or DISTAR–M).
D for two 21” (53 cm) FLICKER FREE monitors (FFD).
D for two 21” (53 cm) FLICKER FREE monitors (FFD–S 1K).
All of them adding one physiological monitor.
A 3 monitor XT Suspension frame contains as main parts:
D XT stationary rails (selectables length) for bridge and monitor support, “x” movement,
D Bridge with carriage plate as “y” movement,
D Monitor support (dual frame with tray and counterbalanced boom), as “z” movement.
D Ceiling cable drape kit for handling cables on XT suspension.

4-4 ECG Monitors

The monitor support has been designed to accept several kinds of physiological monitor.
The EKG monitor may only be mounted to the platform on a tray, not in the interior of the frame. The
maximum allowable weight of this monitor is 35 kg and minimum is 21 kg. The maximum width
considered is 50 cm. The maximum depth allowed for the EKG monitor is 59 cm. The maximum height
forthe monitor is 52 cm.
The specific monitors under considerations are the following:

Monitor Name Dimensions (W*H*D) Weight

SONY 21” GDM 5402 50*50*48 32 kg
PPG/Hellige EKG 43*52*48 cm 32 kg
Marquette EKG 48*49*49 cm 32 kg

Monitors not specifically on this list will have to fall within the parameters outlined in the paragraph
above. Since it is impossible to predict what size screws are appropriate for mounting of every type of
EKG monitor. If any monitor requires screws of a different size for mounting, it is assumed that the
supplier of that monitor will supply the necessary screws.

2 STRUCTURAL REQUIREMENTS

2-1 Floor requirements

Not applicable.

2-2 Ceiling requirements

The stationary rails for monitor XT Suspension support a three monitor support including monitors.
D Rail mounting
Attach stationary rails to structural steel with through–bolts in concrete ceilings. Do not use screw
anchors in direct tension.
Mount stationary rails directly to the ceiling slab or to flush–mounted Unistrut or Halfen structure. In
higher rooms with false ceiling, mount stationary rails to rigid vertical members hung from ceiling
slab.
Securing a supplementary channel to the bottom of the vertical members and mounting the
stationary rails to this channel can greatly reduce the number of vertical members. The stationary
rail support structure must be leveled before installation can begin. Do not assume that any
support structure is level within specified tolerances, particularly after removing suspensions from
an existing room.

11
GE Medical Systems 3 Monitor XT Suspension frame
REV 4 pim 2248370–100

D Bolt Specifications
– The maximum load per bolt will not exceed 350 lbs (1557 N)
– Each bolt must not “pull out” or otherwise fail under a vertically downward “dead” load of
1440 lbs (6227 N).
D Mounting Requirements
The stationary rail hole accepts normal bolts used by HALFEN or UNISTRUT with 12 mm (or
1/2 inch) diameter.
For GEMS–Am:

Note: Special 1/2–13 bolts in US Standard for mounting stationary rails are furnished with each
pair of rails for XT suspension. In other countries, for metric standard, they are supplied by
the local Field Service. The bolts are case hardened ”Whiz–lock” flange bolts, requiring no
separate flat washer or lockwasher. Bolts of this type must be used to obtain adequate
clearances and permit unrestricted longitudinal movement of the bridge along the rails:
substitution is not recommended.
The furnished bolts are 1–1/2” long (GE part No. 59136). For lengths other than this, contact:
MacLean–Fogg Lock Nut Compagny
1000 Allanson Road
Mundelein, Illinois 60060
Phone 312–566–0010
(thread length from 3/4’ to 2’ available).
For GEMS–A and GEMS–E:

Note: Special metric bolts are not supplied. Local Field Service supplies them according to the
additional structure mounted on site. (Unistrut or Halfen parts).
D Select Rails
All XT stationary rails are with a select length process. Detail of available length is illustrated in
Chapter 4, Section 5.
D Reference
For additional details on ceiling requirements for stationary rails, refer to:
– Direction 46–019639, Advantx (VHLA) XT Stationary Rails Installation and Adjustment.
