Well, if we keep polluting and using up our fresh water supply, we may have to answer that question. It is easy to think that we have an unlimited supply of water. Every time we turn on our water faucets, we are rewarded with a steady stream of flowing water. However, as earths population is increasing our water use is increasing. New York City alone consumes about 7

billions liters of water every day!! So where is most of our drinkable water located? Over seventy-five percent of our earth is covered with water. Most of it is the saltwater in ocean. Our drinkable water is found in rivers, lakes, glaciers and beneath land surfaces as groundwater. As more rainwater falls, more groundwater is produced. How does this get our homes and businesses? The water is pumped to its first destination which is our reservoirs. Reservoirs are storage tanks that store water. We need to clean water from rivers, lakes and streams before we drink it. When the water enters the reservoirs, the solid earth and materials in the water settle to the bottom of the reservoir. Water treatment factories clean rainwater and groundwater with chemicals to remove germs and dirt. Once the water enters the factory, it is filtered to remove larger solid materials. To get the smaller materials, the water is sent through filters that contain layers and sand and gravel. By using sand and gravel filters, which are cleaned everyday, smaller materials will stay behind as the water flows out. Finally, the water is purified with chlorine and other chemicals. Chlorine helps to keep the water clean or pure. Now that is water is cleaned, it is pumped into main supply pipes in our homes, schools and businesses. 1- Choose the title which best corresponds to the text (01 pts) a) Getting drinkable water b) Water in new York c) Underground water d) Water at home 2- What do the underlined words refer to in the text (04 pts) That question 1 Does this get 2 It is filtered 3 Which are cleaned 4 .. .. .. .. 3- Turn into passive voice (03 pts) Ø Have we lost our water?
