Regional Statistics Conference for South East Asia has
been convened by His Majestyrs Special Commissioner in
South East Asia to meet in Singapore from 27th to Joth
January, 1948. I am instructed by His Majesty's Principal
Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to invite the
Secretariat of the United Nations to participate (without
vote) in this Conference.
2. I enclose copies of the draft agenda and of a note
and attached questionnaires which have been drawn up for
the purpose of assisting delegations in the preparation
of papers on the various items of the agenda.

3. Invitations are being issued to the Governments of


all territories in and concerned with South East Asia.
Invitations are also being issued to certain interested
Specialised iAgencies to participate (without vote).

Scope ot the Conference . The Sectional Meeting of the Worl d Power Con-
f erence at The Hague in 1947, orgbllised by the Netherlands National Coa-
mittee of the World Power Conference , will deal with Fuel Economy. The
Technical Pr ogramme of t his meeting, published in December 1946, cont&ins
f\uiher particulars on the subjects dealt wi t h . The Technical Programme
ay be obtained through the r espective National Committees or Representa-
tives of the World Power Conference.
Progr8llllle. The Confer ence will l e st from September 2-9, 1947 and will
be followed by some tecbnicc..l excursions on September 10. During the Con-
ference there will be a t wo-day excursion to the Netherl ds St ate Coal
Kines in the Province of Limburg. r\trther detills are given on page 6.
Various excursions for "accompanying persons" will be organised. Attention
is drawn to the f act that at t he same t ime as the Fuel Economy Conference,
viz., on September 3 and 4, 1947 a amall Confe r ence on Electro-heating and
El.ectro-chemiatry will be held, orgmdsed by the Netherlands Institute for
Electro-heating and Electro-chemistry (Secretari at : 210, Utrechtscheweg -
Arnhem - Netherlands).
Membership. Having regard to the limit ad hotel accommodation available,
i t is very desirable that the Secret ari at of the Confer ence should r eceive
an early indication of the nUllber of intending participatns; t herefore it i s
requested that the attached registrati on f orm be completed as soon as pos-
sible.
The membership fee will be Glds. 55,-. This ount covers ad-
missi on to all Sessions, the cost of copi es of all t he printed papers , the
General Reports and the Papers on FUEL ECONOMI SINCE 1939 prepared by the
National Committees at an earlier date. The membership fe e for «accompany-
ing persons " (limited to one for each full aeab er) is Olds. 55,-. including
also admission to the opening and closing a eetings and the cost ofil one ex-
cursion on September 4, especially arranged for "accompanying per sons ".

the regulations.

advertising. The contents of the papers should have a direct bearing on fuel
econo , e .g., the i mportance of staff education for the purpose of fuel econo-
