3.4 - Formation des ions monoatomiques
Regle de la structure electronique stable (ou regle de loctet et du duet) .
Les atomes, au cours des ractions chimiques, acquirent la structure
lectronique stable, en octet ou en duet, du gaz inerte de numro atomique le plus
proche en gagnant ou en perdant des lectrons pour devenir des ions.
Par exemple, l`atome de chlore (Z17) a 17 electrons. Il gagne 1 electron pour en avoir
18 comme l`atome d`argon. Il donne ainsi l`ion chlorure Cl
-
.
L`atome de magnesium (Z12) possede 12 electrons. Il en perd deux pour n`en avoir plus
que dix comme l`atome de neon (Z10) qui est le gaz inerte ayant le numero atomique le
plus proche de celui du magnesium. Il donne ainsi l`ion Mg
2
.
3.5 - Notion d`lectrongativit
L`electronegativite est la capacite d`un atome a attirer et a retenir les electrons. Les
atomes des elements qui sont a droite de la classiIication periodique (sauI les gaz inertes)
ont tendance a donner des ions negatiIs donc ils attirent Iacilement les electrons : on dit
qu`ils ont une Iorte electronegativite.
Les atomes des elements qui sont a gauche de la classiIication periodique ont tendance a
donner des ions positiIs donc ils perdent Iacilement des electrons : on dit qu`ils ont une
Iaible electronegativite ou qu`ils sont electropositiIs.
