Cest lamour des objets qui nous a guid dans laventure de DCW. Des objets compagnons de la vie quotidienne, fiables lusage, honntes, bien penss, bien fabriqus. Des objets que lon traite avec gard, parfois mme avec attachement. Cest une manire de vivre et de voir. Nous ditons ce jour deux objets au design intemporel: la lampe Gras cre par BernardAlbin Gras, quilibre, intelligente, lgante et transparente: une icne du luminaire. la chaise Surpil dessine et conue par Julien-Henri Porch, confortable, lgre, chic et discrte, laise lintrieur comme lextrieur : un vrai objet. Asseyez-vous et regardez.

La lampe Gras une icne du XXe sicle

En 1921, Bernard-Albin Gras cre une gamme de lampes pour lindustrie et les bureaux dtudes. La lampe Gras, est tonnante par son ergonomie et la simplicit de sa mcanique - ni vis, ni soudure - qui lui confre une robustesse toute preuve. Mais BernardAlbin Gras est aussi un des premiers designers du XXe sicle: non content dinnover, il ajoute ses crations une esthtique fonctionnelle originale notamment dans le dessin des fontes et des bielles. Trs rapidement, Le Corbusier, sduit par la modernit de son dessin et sa qualit dutilisation, adopte la gamme des lampes Gras et lintgre dans son agence ainsi que dans ses nombreuses

ralisations travers le monde. La lampe Gras entre alors dans la lgende. Suivront Robert Mallet-Stevens, Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann, Eileen Gray, mais galement Sonia Delaunay, Georges Braque, Coco Chanel Cest la premire fois dans lhistoire de lclairage quune lampe est utilise dans les ateliers et dans les maisons et appartements. Aujourdhui cette lampe est collectionne par les amateurs travers le monde notamment en France, aux tats-Unis et au Japon. Le sens inn de lesthtique de BernardAlbin Gras a travers le temps. La socit ddition DCW Entreprises a acquis lexclusivit des droits de la gamme des lampes Gras.

It is our passion for objects that led us to create DCW. Objects : companions to our daily existence that are reliable, honest, carefully thought through and perfectly crafted. In 1921 Bernard-Albin GRAS designed a series of lamps for use in offices and in industrial environments.The GRAS lamp, as it was subsequently called, was astounding in its simple, robust and yet very ergonomic design. There are neither screws nor welded joints in the basic form. In 1927 the Ravel company purchased the patent and started production of the GRAS lamps. BernardAlbin Gras was one of the most innovative designer of the 20th century. The functional esthetic of his lamps and especially the design of details such as those of the arms, stems, brackets and bases were truly original and far ahead of his time. Early on Le Corbusier was seduced by the modern design and user-friendliness of the lamps and became one of Bernard-Albin GRASs most

enthusiastic supporters using the lamps in his own offices as well as employing them in numerous architectural projects all over the world. Others such as Robert Mallet-Stevens, Jacques Emile Ruhlmann and Eileen Gray followed this trend as well. Furthermore, such well-know artists as Sonia Delaunay and Georges Braque also used these lamps in their studios. For the first time in history, a lamp was equally popular in professional as well as in residential applications. Today, the GRAS lamp has become sought after a collectors item all over the world, most notably in France, in the United States and in Japan. Bernard-Albin Grass talented and visionary design has proven to be timeless.

Avec sa rotule indrglable et sa forme graphique, son adquation parfaite entre forme et fonction, la lampe n 201 a sduit les architectes les plus novateurs ds sa cration en 1921. Le Corbusier ladopte le premier puis ce modle trouve rapidement un cho en Allemagne chez les membres du Bauhaus.

La chaise Surpil 1927 - Paris

Lhistoire du mobilier Surpil et de la Socit des meubles superposables est dabord celle dun inventeur franais Julien-Henri Porch qui se penche ds 1927 sur la conception dun mobilier mtallique totalement indit destin aux espaces publics (restaurants, cafs et ameublement des espaces collectifs). Le crateur marquera la cration franaise de lpoque en concevant ces modles de chaise la fois fonctionnels et pourvus de lignes ariennes et esthtiques grce lassemblage de 2 tubes formant assise et dossier. Structure qui confre cet objet lgret et solidit. Certains modles Surpil seront plbiscits par les crateurs de lpoque comme latteste la publication en 1929 dans le portfolio Les Meubles en mtal, conu par larchitecte Pierre Pinsard, de planches prsentant les meubles Surpil prsents lors du salon dAutomne sur le stand du crateur Gabriel Jouvin. Leur prsence dans cet ouvrage aux cts de planches figurant des meubles de crateurs appartenant lavant-garde, comme Louis Sognot, Robert Mallet-Stevens, ou Marcel Breuer, en tmoigne. Nous avons choisi de rditer la chaise SURPIL pour son confort et pour son design qui rsiste aux caprices des modes. La rdition en aluminium lui confre de nouvelles qualits: la lgret (3,4 kg), et la rsistance au temps.

We have chosen to re-issue the SURPIL chair, first for its comfort and secondly for its line. Made in aluminium (3.5 kg/7.5 lb), this timeless chair is at home anywhere: in a studio, kitchen, bedroom or on a terrace The Surpil story, and that of the Stackable Furniture Company is first and foremost that of a french inventor, Julien-Henri Porch, who, starting in 1927 turned his attention to designing furniture made entirely from metal for use in public spaces (restaurant terraces, cafs and other public areas). The designer made his mark on French design of the period by creating chairs that were both functional and yet bestowed with a line that was graceful and light through the use of two tubes which were used to form the seat and the back. It is this feature that makes each piece appear light, while at the same time ensuring its underlying strength. Some of the Surpil chairs were used by other designers of the period, as the inclusion of a special insert on Surpil furniture that were displayed on the designer Gabriel Jouvins stand in the Autumn fair in Paris in the 1929 publication Metal Furniture edited by the architect Pierre Pinsard attests. Their inclusion alongside the work of avant-garde designers of the time like Louis Sognot, Robert Mallet-Stevens or Marcel Breuer is evidence of their importance at the time. This innovative, stackable furniture that was both hard-wearing and a precursor in its use of modernist lines, is similar to that which first came out of Germany as part of the Bauhaus movement.
