Recalling General Assembly resolution 36/55 of 25 November 1981, in which the Assembly
proclaimed the Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Intolerance and of
Discrimination Based on Religion or Belief, in particular articles 2, 3 and 4 of the Declaration [PP 1 of
UNGA 63/181]
Recalling also article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, article 18 of the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights, article 2 (2) of the International Covenant on Economic, Social
and Cultural Rights and other relevant human rights provisions [PP 2 of HRC 6/37]
Recalling further the resolutions on the elimination of all forms of intolerance and of discrimination
based on religion or belief adopted by the General Assembly, by the former Commission on Human
Rights, and by the Human Rights Council, including resolution 6/37 of the Human Rights Council
which, inter alia, extended the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief,
[based on PP 1 of HRC 6/37 and PP 3 of UNGA 63/181]
Welcoming the adoption of the Optional Protocol to the Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural
Rights recently adopted by the General Assembly in its resolution A/RES/63/117, [New]
