Electronics and Communication Engineering

B.E, B.TECH Degree Examination MAR 2023
Sixth Semester
EC8652-Wireless Communication
INTERNAL ASSESSMENT TEST---I
Time: 1 ½ hours Maximum: 50 marks
Answer all questions
PART A—(5*2=10)

1. What is frequency selective fading?

2. What is the difference between CDMA and FDMA.
3. Define Coherence time. In what way does this parameter decide the behaviour of wireless
channel.
4. Why is cellular concept used for mobile telephone?
5. Define frequency reuse.
PART B (2*13=26 MARKS)

6. a.) Describe briefly about free space propagation model.

b) Find the far field distance for an antenna with maximum dimension of 2m and
operating frequency of 850MHz.
7. Describe in detail, the parameters of mobile multipath channels with their significance.
8. a) Consider a transmitter which radiates a sinusoidal carrier frequency of 1800 MHz for a
Vehicle moving 50mph, compute the received carrier frequency if the mobile is moving.
1) Directly toward the transmitter,
2) Directly away from the transmitter, and
3) In a direction which is perpendicular to the direction of arrival of the transmitted
signal.
b) Explain the features and disadvantages of CDMA.

PART C (1*14=14 MARKS)

9. a) If a transmitter produces 50W of power, express the transmit power in units of

a)dBm and b)dBw. When 50W is applied to a unity gain antenna with a 900 MHz
carrier frequency, calculate the received power in dBm at a free space distance of 100m
from the antenna. Also find Pr(10 Km).
b) Explain in detail about TDMA.
10. Explain in detail about two ray propagation model.
