awarded by China Classification Society (CCS).
The device includes following characteristics: .
(1). The accessory pump does not .directly draw iri the oily water, therefore, the
emulsion 'ofthe oily water is avoided and high separating effect can be gained.
(2). The primary assembling and separating elements in the separator can be back
flushed and will never be 'clogged. It may be used for a long time without replacing.
(3). Good automatic oil discharge control and safety precaution of accessory pump
are provided. It cans automatically control the primary discharge process or change
to the secondary discharge process by the character of the oily..water and also can
put the unqualified water back to· bilge when the oil concentration in processed
water is beyond the limit. It is easy to operate and highly reliable, and its function
accords with requirements for the unattended engine rooms.
(4). The pr~mary oil water separator, secondary emulsive oil separator, screw pump,
electric control box, oily consistency detector, strainer, fine filter and 3-way valve
are installed on a common seat, and the primary oil water separator and electric
control box may also be installed separately with secondary emulsive oil separator
and oily consistency detector according to different engine room if necessaiy.

3. Principle of Operation (refer to fig. 1,2 and The principle and system diagram
of ZYFM oily-water separator)
When the accessory pump draws the water out from the separator, a vacuum is
f01med in it. After passing through the strainer and the upper 3-way valve, the bilge
water enters the ejector of the separating device, where the oil and water are
separated initially. Then the large globules of oil float onto the surface of the
mixture
.
in the oil accumulation room, .while the bilge water with the small globules
of oil go downwards and enter a speci?lly-made assembling element in which the
small globules of oil are reassembled and fom1 large globules of oil. The large
globules of oil then float onto the surface of the mixture in the oil accumulation
room. The separated water is dischargeq from the bottom of the separating device ·, ~
. .
and flows through the 3-way valve, then enters the suction side of the single screw
pump. It is discharged overboard after' being pumped out from the single ·screw
pump and going through the 3-way valves (electromagnetic valves).
When the water discharged from the primary separator is unqualified, oily
consistency detector will send out signal to make Jway ·valve actuate, and the
primary discharged water come into the secondary emulsive oil separator to
continue to do the micro-filtration process. Qualified water will discharge to
broadside from the secondary discharged 3-way valve, and the process will revert to
the primary separator after 30min. When the secondary emulsive oil separator is
disabled and secondary discharge is un_qualified, the oily consistency detector will
send out signal again, pneumatic valve open, then processed water come back to
bilge.
When process situation is secondary micro-filtration separation, the discharge
regulator locating in top of emulsive oil separator will always open. Some
oily-water with exiguous solid suspender come back the bilge through the regulator
to decrease the resistance of micro-filtration. Regulate the regulator set point to 2/3
·-
I
of the rated discharge water flow through observing the flow meter.
When there is too much separated oil the accumulation room, the oil level test
device will send out signal, thus making the pilot magnet valve actuate, therefore the
compressed air will enter all three 3-way valves to make them ·actuate. The bilge
water is now unable to get into the separator and the separated water is not allowed
to be discharged. Sea water (clean water) is drawn in by a pump through a 3-way
valve, and after passing through another 3-way valve, it enters the lower part of the
separating device, back-flushing the assembling element, therefore the vacuum state
in the separating device becomes a;.pressure state. The accumulated oil is discharged
into a foul oil tank through the upper 3~~y valve.

4. Main Accessories
4.1. Electric Control Box
4.1.1. The principle of starting, stopping and mode automatic change for the special
purpose pump (refer to fig.3, 4, 5, 6)
The special purpose pump group for oil separator is driven by a 3-phase motor
to draw the oily water into the separator.
When the bilge water has been treated or the filter is clogged, the special
purpose pump will stop.
When the bilge water level is so low that some air is drawn in, the vacuum in
the device may decrease to the atmosphere pressure, or when the filter is
clogged, the vacuum in the upper part of separator will increase rapidly. In
such cases, obvious changes in vacuum will occur, which can be changed into
electric signals by using a vacuum meter. If there is a increase in vacuum, the
vacuum meter indicator (black) will touch the high vacuum touch indicator
(green, set to 0.06Mpa), and if there is a decrease in vacuum, it will touch the
low vacuum touch indicator .(red set to O.OlMpa), therefore the power supply
through the A.C. contact in the control box is cut off, and the motor will stop.
4.1.2. The principle of foul oil temperature control
The electric. heating system is provided so that the v~scous oil can be
discharged freely, and the foul oil can be prevented from adhering to the oil
level test device with the result of control system troubles.
The temperature test element will sense the temperature changes and the three
indicators of the vacuum _meter can change them into electric signals in order
·to control the electric heater. It is regulated in 35 °C- 45°C generally.
4.1.3. Automatic discharge principle
The oil level is tested by a resistance type oil level test device. Its operating
principle is indicated as follows:
There are two oil level testers in the oil accumulation room, the high level
tester and the low level tester. When two testers are put into different kinds of
liquid, water and oil, they have different conductive tatios; therefore the
resistances between the testers and the oil separator casing are also different.
.-~ These two resistance values are sent to thy level relay in the control box so that
the level relay will give out different electric signals to control the 3-way valve
to discharge oil automatically.
The manual oil discharge control is also provided in the control box. (The
selection knob is to be turned to manual position, and automatic oil discharge
will not work)
4.1.4. Other functions of control box

to show the working conditions of the oil separator by using the indicating
lights on the control console.
2) The control box provide overpressure alarm lamp by two electric pressure
meters installed on fine filter and emulsive oil separator. The lamp can
remind the operators to replace the disabled filter core or emulsive oil
separator element.
3) There is a red alarm light to indicate the oil density. The oil density may
further be used to control another 3-way valve, which can change the
discharge ports to discharge the oily water beyond the limit back into the
bilge tank, and the water up to standard overboard.

(1) Operation without medium is forbidden, otherwise dry friction will take
place between stator and rotor, resulting in a hot, even a burnt rubber.
(2) The rubber stator tightly fits with the metal rotor, yvhen the pump is started
for the first ·time or is stopped for several days, before starting it, turn the
coupling a few revolutions with a wrench spanner, otherwise it may be hard
to start.
(3) If the pump inner space is full of lily sludge. It can be cleaned by opening
the discharge screw under the outlet end of the pump .

4.3.2. Principle of Operation
As shown in figure, valve port I, II are usually in open position, and valve port
ill in close position. When a control signal makes the pilot magnet v_a lve
actuate, compressed air will enter the upper part of the cylinder to push the
piston downward, thus closing valve port II and making port III communicate
port I, the purpose of controlling flow direction being reached.
4.3.3. Points for attention when assembling
(1) These ports in open position and the port in close position must never be
mixed.
· (2) Then valve should be perpendicularly assembled.
(3) Air source pressure should be 0.6-0.7 Mpa.

5,3. Requirements of installation .

5.3.1. When choosing the installing place, room should be left around the device
according to the outline dimensions·of the oily water separator to make it easy
to maintain.
5.3.2. The height of upper space above the oily water separator must exceed 0.5
meters so that the casing can be lifted up to maintain and repair.
5.3.3. The special inlet pipeline should be fitted for the separator according to the
system diagram, which should be as short as possible. Joint elbows and v~lves
in the pipeline should be fitted as few as possible. The inlet non-return valve
should be fitted 20cm above the bottom of the foul water well to prevent

,,:

ingress of sludge and mud on the bottom.

5.3.4. A filter of common size should be fitted in the inlet pipeline and it should be
fitted at the position where it can be cleaned easily.
5.3.5. The installation must be carried out strictly according to the technical
requirements (refer to the system installation general drawing). Water pressure
test must be carried out after installation, make sure there is no leakage under
the pressure of 0.2Mpa.
5.3.6. The non-return valve must be provided in the water discharge. pipeline to
prevent seawater from getting in.
5.3.7. The foul oil tank should be below the oil discharge outlet, and joint elbows
should be used as few as possible to make sure that oil can be discharged
freely.
5.3.8. Electric wire in the circuit should conform to the requirements of vessels

6. Use
6 .1 . Preparation before first operation
6.1.1. Turn on the upper discharge valve, lower discharge valve, the observation
cook, primary discharge check valve, primary, secondary san1ple valve, inlet
check valve of fine filter.
6.1.2. Turn on the air source check valve to observe if the air source pressure is
between 0.6-0.7MPa (6-7kg/cm2) (This value is usually well set by the
manufacturer, if adjustment is necessary, loosen the lock bolt on top of the
pressure-adjustable water filter, then turn the black knob.)
6.1.3 Observe if the high vacuum limit indicator (green) of vacuum pressure meter
is pointing at the value of -0.06Mpa and the low vacuum limit indicator (red)
of it is pointing at the value of -0.0lMpa. (these values are set by
manufacturer).
6.1.4 Turn.on the ch~ck valve in the seawater pipeline and check valve in the back
flush pipeline.
6.1.5. Connect the control box power supply, turn the switch to "on" position. The
power indicating lamp will be light, and the stopping indicating lamp will
also be light. Turn the oil discharge knob to "manual" position first, then
observe if the yellow lamp for oil discharge is light.
6.1.6. If highly viscous foul oil is to be separated, or in cold season, turn the power
knob of electric heater tb "on" position. The heating temperature is usually
between 35-45°C. When the temperature is below 35°C, the heat er will
work automaticall y, when above 45°C, it will stop automatically.
Its work ing condition can be indicated by the indicating lamp.
6.1.7. Adjust the red finger of electric pressure meter on fine filter and emulsive oil
separator to pipeline pressure and add 0.2 Mpa (these values are set by
manufacturer)
6.2. Operation and ~xamination .
After above-mentioned preparation, following operation can be carried out:

16
..
,

6.2.1. Start the screw pump and the pump rotor should rotate in clockwise direction
(observe from motor to the pump inlet direction). The clean water is now
pumped into the separator.
6.2.2. When the water is pumped into the separator, the air in it will be forced out
from the valves and cocks. If water is found flowing out from these valves and
cocks, turn off the upper and lower discharge valves and the test valve, then
turn on the oil discharge check valve and close the back flush check valve (15)
when water overflows from the back flush pipe.
6.2.3. Any leakage from the device and in the system must be eliminated.
6.2.4. Tum the oil discharge knob to "automatic" position, the yellow oil discharge
light should be off, and the bilge oily water is drawn into the separator will the
oily water being separated.
6.2.5. Tum on the water sample valve while operating to observe if the water sample
is within the normal range.
6.2.6. Feel the surface of the screw pump bearing to see if it is too hot, and notice if
the pump operates smoothly and if the sound is n01mal. The lubricating oil
should be replenished in time.
6.2.7. Observe the electric pressure meter on fine filter and emulsive oil separator
termly, when the pipeline system pressure is up to regulating value ( ~
0.2Mpa), the black pressure finger touch the red finger producing electric
signal, then the red alarm lamp on electric control box tum on to note that it
need to replace the filter core or micro-filtration element.
6.3. Stop ,
6.3.1. StoP, the separator under normal conditions
When the bilge water can not be drawn up and air is drawn in with the
vacuum below pump O.OlMpa, the screw motor power will be cut off / I

automatically and the pump will stop.

6.3.2. Stop the separator under abnormal conditions
The pump vacuum value will increase acutely to -0.05Mpa when the pipeline
bottom valve or filter jam. Then electric pressure meter send the signal
automatically, the power of screw pump shut off and the pump stopping.
6.3 .3 Stop the separator manually
Press the stop button on the control box, or switch off the control box power
supply, the pump will stop.
6.3.4. Other valves should be kept in the same position as before stop.
6.4. Operating steps
6.4.1. Check the compressed air source to see if the pressure is in the range of
0.6~0.7Mpa, pneumatic 3-way is in normal state, oily-water separator is
always open, the top of electromagnetic valve have suction to be sure the
electromagnetic is in working status.
6.4.2. Fully turn on the check valve in bilge foul water piping system.
6.4.3. Switch on the control box power and the YNB-IV Oil Concentration Alami
power.

17
,.;

6.4.4. Start the screw pump.

6.4.5. Observe the vacuum of the separating device and the discharge water pressure,
then turn on the test valve to get some water sample to observe the water
quality.

7. Maintenance
7.1.Clean the strainer regularly or the vacuum value of oily-water separator is up
abnormally.
7.2.Back flush the assembling element in the separator at regular intervals. Concrete steps
can be taken as follows:
7.2.1. Turn on the valve in the back flush pipe, and close the oil discharge valve.
7.2.2. Turn the oil discharge knob to "manual" position, and the bilge water will not
be drawn in. The clean water can now be pumped into the lower.part of the
separator and back-flushes the assembling element, then flows through the
upper 3-way valve and back flush discharge pipe to the bilge. Normally the
back flush process not less than 15min.
7.2.3. After back-flushing, tum on valve 16, close valve 15 and tum the oil discharge
knob to "automatic" position.
7.3.The assembling element in the primary oily-water separator should be checked and
cleaned every two years.

8. Note
8.1.For first time use or if don't use the oily-water separator in a long time, please check
if the pump jam when ~tart it and remove it to avoid the motor damage.
8.2.Must no open the electric beater when the water in primary oily-water separator is not
full of in it to avoid the heater element damage.
8.3.Must close the final discharge pipe valve when don' t use the oily-water separator in a
long time to avoid the residuary oil waste the separator that the water level drop by
siphon or other reasons. The separator will lost the effect of micro-filtration if the
secondary emulsive oil separator lost water or micro-filtration element dry rot and
distort.

Keypad Navigational Map

The SJ 100 Series inverter drives have many programmable functions and parameters.
Chapter 3 will cover these in detail, but you need to access just a few items to perform
the powerup test. The menu structure makes use of function codes and parameter codes
to allow programming and monitoring with only a 4-digit display and a few keys and
LEDs. So, it is important to become farniliar with the basic navigational map of parame-
ters and functions in the diagram below. You may later use this map as a reference.

Basic Parameter Settings
These settings affect the most fundamental behavior of the inverter-the outputs to the
motor. The frequency of the inverter's AC output determines the motor speed. You may
select from three different sources for the reference speed. During application develop-
ment you may prefer using the potentiometer, but you may switch to an external source
(control terminal setting) in the finished application, for example.
The base frequency and maximum frequency settings interact according to the graph
below (left). The inverter output operation follows the constant V/f curve until it reaches
the full-scale output voltage. This initial straight line is the constant-torque part of the
opernting characteristic. The hori:rnr:1.tal line over to the maximum frnqHency sen•es to let
the motor run faster, but at a reduced torque. If you want the motor to output constant
torque over its entire operating range (limited to the motor nameplate voltage and
frequency rating), then set the base frequency and maximum frequency equal as shown
(below right). 9- <l,1) r

• NOTE: The "2nd motor" settings in the tables in thfa chapter store an alternate set of
parameters for a second motor. The inverter can use the 1st set or 2nd set of parameters
to generate the output frequency to the motor. See "Configuring the Inverter for Multiple
Motors" on page 4-40.

Analog Input Settings

The inverter has the capability to accept an external analog input that can command the
output frequency to the motor. Voltage input (0 -1 OV) and current input (4- 20mA) are
available on separate terminals ([OJ and [OIJ, respectively). Terminal [L] serves as
signal ground for the two analog inputs. The analog input setti ngs adjust the curve
characteristics between the analog input and the frequency output.
In the graph below (left), A_l3 and A_ l4 select the active portion of the input voltage or
current range. The parameters A_ l 1 and A_l 2 select the start and encl frequency of the
converted output frequency range, respectively. Together, these four parameters define a
line segment as shown (below, right). When the line does not begin at the origin, A_l5
defines whether the inverter outputs OHz or the A_ l 1 frequency when the analog input
value is less than the A_l3 setting (determines the non-linear part of the translation).

The SJlOO inverter has the capability to store and output up to 16 preset frequencies to
the motor (A_20 to A_35). As in traditional motion terminology, we call this 11111/ti-
speed profile capability. These preset frequencies are selected by means of digital inputs
to the inverter. The inverter applies the current acceleration or deceleration setting to
change from the current output frequency to the new one. T he first multi-speed setting is
duplicated for the second motor settings (the remaining 15 multi-speeds apply on ly to
the first motor).
The jog speed setting is used whenever the Jog command is active. The jog speed setting
range is arbitrarily limited to 10 Hz, to provide safety during manual operation. The
acceleration to the jog frequency is instantaneous, but you can choose from three modes
for the best method for stopping the jog operation.

Sensorless vector
Review the following descriptions to help you (SLV) control
choose the best torque control algorithm for

• The built-in V/f curves are oriented toward developing constant torque or variable
torque characteristics (see graphs below).
• Sensorless vector control calculates an ideal torque vector based on current motor
position, winding currents, and so on. It is a more robust control method than the V/f
control methods. However, it is more dependent on actual motor parameters and will
require you to set these values carefully or perform the auto-tuning procedure (see
"Auto-tuning for Sensorless Vector Control" on page 4-35).

Constant and Variable (Reduced) Torque - The graph below (left) shows the constant
torque characteristic from OHz to the base frequency A_03. The voltage remains
constant for output frequencies higher than the base freq uency. The graph below (right)
shows the general variable (reduced) torque curve. The range from OHz to the base
frequency is the variable characteristic.

parameters A_42 and A_43. The manual boost is calculated as an addition to the
standard straight V /f line (constant torque curve) .

• NOTE: Manual torque boost is not operational when sensorless vector control is in use.

Be aware that running the motor at a low speed for a long time can cause motor
overheating. This is particularly true when manual torque boost is ON, or if the motor
relies on a built-in fan for cooling.

• NOTE: Manual torque boost applies only to constant torque (A_44=00) and variable
torque (A_44=01) V/f control.

Voltage Gain - Using parameter A_45 you V Voltage Gain

Scnsorless Vector Control (SLY) - This advanced torque control algorithm improves
torque performance at very low speeds-down to 0.5 Hz. Set parameter A_44=02 to
select SLY operation. The SLY alg01ithrn must be tuned to match the characteristics of
the particular motor connected to your inverter. Simply using the default motor parame-
ters in the inverter will not work satisfactorily for these control methods. Chapter 4
discusses motor/inverter size selection and how to set the motor parameters either
manually or by using the built-in auto-tuning. Before usi ng the sensorless vector control
methods, please refer to "Auto-tuning for Scnsorless Vector Control" on page 4- 35 .

• NOTE: When the inverter is in SLV (sensorless vector) mode, use 8 _83 to set the carrier
frequency greater than 2.1 kHz for proper operation .

• NOTE: You must disable sensorless vector operation when two or mo re motors are
connected (parallel operation) to the inverter.
