Six pièces pour violon seul (9’)

Cette œuvre fut écrite pour la violoniste suisse Noëmi Schindler à partir du long solo présent dans Messe un jour
ordinaire (1994).
Elle en donna la création au Kongresshaus de Zurich en mai 1995 et dans sa version définitive au Festival Présence de
Radio-France en février 1996.

Fauve signifie tout autant une couleur située entre le jaune et le roux, un animal sauvage, qu’un mouvement de
peinture ou l’idée du « non apprivoisé ».
Si tout au long du parcours, les pièces ne font pas référence avec l’une ou l’autre de ces définitions, il y a dans cette
musique de toute évidence, une résonance implicite avec chacune d’entre elles.

Des six pièces, la troisième et la quatrième reprennent thématiquement les éléments des deux premières. Il est ainsi
possible d’enchaîner ces pièces de manière à constituer un cycle plus court : 1 – 2 – 5 – 6 ou 3 – 4 – 5 – 6.

Fauve (1994)
Six pieces for solo violin (9’)

Fauve was written for the Swiss violinist Noëmi Schindler from the long solo of Messe un jour ordinaire (1994). She
premiered the piece at the Zurich Kongresshaus in Mai 1995 and played its definitive version at the Radio France
Présence Festival in February 1996.

The French word Fauve designates a particular hue between yellow and reddish-brown, but its various other
acceptations range from big game to the Fauvists school of painting, to a tormented state of mind.
As the piece goes along, none of the movements seems to refer to any of the above definitions in particular, it is
nevertheless obvious that the latter all have an implied resonance in the music.

The thematic material in 3 and 4 is derived from the first two movements. The pieces may thus combine into a shorter
cycle: 1 – 2 – 5 – 6 or 3 – 4 – 5 – 6.

Sechs Stücke für Violine solo (9’)

Fauve wurde für die schweizer Violonistin Noëmi Schindler geschrieben, welche dieses Werk 1995 im Kongresshaus
Zürich uraufführte. Die endgültige Fassung spielte sie 1996 im Rahmen des Festival Presences – Radio-France.

Das französische Wort Fauve evoziert Ungezähmtheit, Weite der Wildnis, anklingend an fahlrote Farbtöne, wie in der
Malerei der Fauvisten.
Auch wen die Stücke während ihres Ablaufs nicht direkt mit diesen Bezeichnungen in Verbindung stehen, spiegeln sich
in ihnen deren Klangfarben.

Die thematischen Elemente des 1. und 2. Stückes werden im 3. und 4. wiederaufgenommen. Demzufolge lässt sich auch
ein kürzerer Ablauf gestalten, indem man 1 – 2 – 5 – 6 oder 3 – 4 – 5 – 6 spielt.
